Interviews About Albums: Deep Valley Blues - Sangue e Veleno (2024)
In this new interview, we sat down with the Italian Heavy Blues Rock band Deep Valley Blues to ask questions about their album, "Sangue e Veleno".
1. What can you say about Sangue e Veleno?
Sangue e veleno it’s an album full of energy that tries to channel negativity into a positive way. It's a direct expression of a sombre period, and this is reflected on the seven songs.
2. What is the meaning of the album title?
Sangue e Veleno is the Italian translation of “Blood and Poison”, there is an expression “Poisoning the blood”, that means to become strongly angry, so angry as to poison the blood, to become intoxicated.
3. Which one is the composer of Sangue e Veleno?
One can give an idea, but we are four composers, there couldn’t be a Deep Valley Blues album without the contribution of every member
4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?
I’ll pick “Eternauta”, inspired by the graphic novel of Francisco Solano Lopez and Hector Oesterheld, and follow the story partially, for the time travel, but then talk about a car accident and a vain attempt to prevent it.
5. Is there a special message in Sangue e Veleno? If there is what it is?
There are a few messages, sometimes it isn't considered the mourning of exploitation at work, the suffering from a family struggle that poisons your life, the reminiscence of an old sorrow, and the desire to solve the situation but there is no solace where there is death.
But I think that the main message brings us to explode in the shout:
“We are here in the deepest part of southern Italy, and we have been throwing our blood, tears, and sweat on our records for eight years, listen to us, this is what we love to do and we just want our music to be heard’.
6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?
I can share the chorus of the title track Sangue e Veleno, in which an ancient family struggle is treated as a curse, a filthy anathema:
“Ora sento sangue brucia dentro e mi avvelena,
di quella colpa rimane ora un anatema
maledetto sono, ora io mi sveglio
ed assaporo il sangue ed il veleno”
we can translate it us:
“Now I feel blood burning inside and poisoning me,
Of that guilt now remains an anathema
cursed I am, now I wake
And taste the blood and the poison”
7. Which inspirations have been important for Sangue e Veleno? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?
I want to especially thank my uncle. He lent me the comic book of the “Eternauta” giving me the inspiration for the lyrics and atmosphere of the album. He died during the album recordings.
