In this new interview, we sat down with the American Progressive Metal/Metal band Sleepless to ask questions about their album, "Through Endless Black".

1. What can you say about this new CD?

For Through Endless Black, I wanted to expand on the songwriting process. Bigger choruses, backing vocals, Synth pads, and a bit more focus on our traditional metal roots. Basically, we set our goal to write a heavy metal record of world-class proportions. That was the goal and we hope that is what people get when they drop the needle to record!

2. What is the meaning of the CD name?

Through Endless Black is the title track for the album and refers to struggling with darkness and depression and coming out the other side being a better version of ourselves.

3. Which one is the composer of the CD?

I write the lyrics and the main outline for every song, and then Kevin and I get to work fleshing out the rest to make the song what you end up hearing.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

Great question! There are a few. I love Dreams of Mortal Ruin because it is a heavy assed vampire tune. I love Cult of the Narcissist because it has a great chorus and an old-school Priest type vibe. I will stop with that but really I love them all.

5. Is there a special message in this CD? If there is what it is?

Most of my songs have to do with finding light in life. I hope that shows in the lyrics. Some of my themes have to do with my anger around religion and the damage it does to people.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

I draw inspiration from music daily. Whatever makes me feel inspired to pick up an instrument and write! Voi Vod, Symphony X, Seal, Blaqk Audio, Gary Numan, Agnostic Front, you name it. The beats, the melodies, it’s all out there. I just let it all soak in then grab a guitar and get heavy!! Friends and family? My dear friend and writing partner Kevin Hahn. He gets me and helps bring out the best in everything I write! My wife, my mom, my sister, and my sons. I could not ask for a better support system. My family loves music and has fed my need to play for decades. I’m super fortunate!
