Interviews: Dwelled

On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore band Dwelled from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or did it just come out like that?

Our name means to keep thinking or talking about something, especially things which are bad or unpleasant. We have all experienced our own trauma and this band acts as a way of coping and healing. We thought it was the perfect fit when thinking up ideas for a name.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Fast-paced, hard-hitting music just has that pull for us. It’s a genre we’ve all listened to from our early teens, and the ability to let loose through heavy music is a good feeling - you can also see the same from those attending gigs.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Sam and Louis knew each other well before they did anything musically together, but we’re mostly four individuals who have become friends sharing the same love of music and being a part of the 0161 music scene in the Greater Manchester area.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Matt W: I’d say my all-time favourite is Linkin Park

Matt T: Currently can’t stop listening to Psycho-Frame

Louis: My current favourites are Humanities Last Breath and Ten.56. Honourable shouts to Sleep Token and Deftones.

Sam: I’d say Architects, but would have to also include Soilwork and Alpha Wolf

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We write songs based on an unfiltered vision of modern life - feelings of anger, despair, and self-hatred. Inspired by life events and the world around us.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last show was at The Old Pint Pot in Salford as part of an all-dayer. It had been a while since we played the Manchester area which both Matt’s are fairly local to - we had a sick time.

7. Where would you like to play?

We’d love to play Manchester Academy, Bread Shed Manchester and KK’s Steel Mill as venues. But if we’re talking festivals, probably Hellfest or Brutal Assault!

8. Who would you like to support?

It would be amazing to support a band like Thrown, Spite or Ten56. The modern metal scene is growing fast with so many awesome bands coming through - so supporting one of those would be awesome.

9. Who not?

Gutalax - purely for the fear of actually being pooped on!

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Sam - I get stage fright before every gig no matter what, but I find taking a moment to myself, taking a massive breath out and then filling my lungs with fresh air normally does the trick. My advice is to remember that a gig is meant to be fun on stage with your mates.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Modern metal is our main influence, with bands such as Spite, Thrown, Alpha Wolf and ten56 constantly on our individual playlists. But we each bring different elements from our other favourite bands into the mix, like Linkin Park, Parkway Drive, Loathe, Slipknot and many more.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We haven’t really had any weird requests (yet?!), but we do normally get questions about our rig just as we run everything from a tiny rack unit and laptop

13. What do you think of your fans?

Anyone who attends and supports the underground metal scene gets our full appreciation - shows would not exist without you!

14. What do you think of our site?

It’s awesome to see a site that covers a vast amount of bands, and it shows that Breathing The Core is a massive supporter of the scene. Keep doing what you’re doing!
