Interviews: Kingsfoil
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Alternative Rock/Funk band Kingsfoil from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, did you plan it or come out just like that?
All original members are fans of JRR Tolkien’s books, and we thought we might find a suitable band
name in there. Originally we did our first show as Tim Somerfield & The Kingsfoil, as I was releasing a
solo EP, forming the band for that show. The aspiration was always to drop my name and become
Kingsfoil though. We chose it because we thought it a suitably niche but meaningful name – it is a herb,
thought to be mundane by ordinary folk, but when used by the true King of the world of Men it has
powerful healing properties. That idea of secret power appealed to us and the name was chosen.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Rock has always been an influence in all of our lives. It lends itself to “band music” with real instruments
instead of modern pop culture's use of digitally programmed instrument models, it feels more authentic
and therefore personal.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
I knew all of them separately for years. The other 3 had not really come together yet, so I drew them into
the band and fortunately, they all gelled really nicely.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Tim – InMe
Ant – Dio
Mikey – Thin Lizzy
Sully – Iron Maiden
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
That’s a tough experience. Strong emotions or feelings are good fuel. Both positive and negative.
Songwriting is a great catharsis. Sometimes I write about a situation that represents the feeling I want to
convey, and sometimes, I write more personally in an attempt to process the emotion I want to cathart into
the song.
6. Where was your last gig?
Dublin Castle, Camden
7. Where would you like to perform?
Download Festival, Rock City Nottingham
8. Whom would you like to perform with?
The Darkness, Incubus, Rival Sons, Alter Bridge
9. Whom not?
Not really anybody
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
When you start out it’s always a fiercely nerve-wracking experience, but through bravery and faking it til
you make it you can overcome your fears. The usual techniques for calming yourself are work, breathing,
grounding, and centering yourself.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Incubus, InMe, Alter Bridge, Rival Sons, Led Zeppelin, Thin Lizzy – the list goes on
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
To sign certain things...we’re not even famous...yet!
13. What do you think of your fans?
They’re really great – they always bring an atmosphere to every show and give us so much support.
14. What do you think of our site?
Looks good, there’s a lot to take in and many bands to discover. Sites like these are important for bands to
be able to reach new fans and followers so thank you.
