Interviews About Albums: Dekta - 144 (2024)

In this new interview, we sat down with the Spanish Groove Metal/Alternative Metal band Dekta to ask questions about their album, "144".

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

This is our third studio album called "144," where we continue to showcase the various influences we have from '90s Metal, combining aggressive passages with more melodic ones. We can also say that, unlike our self-titled debut album "Dekta" and our second album "When Everything Burns," in this third album, the songs are more direct, with an even more refined production.

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

With the title "144," we aim to confront the tensions of daily life and the urgency of finding time for oneself before it's too late. We want to represent the relentless passage of time, questioning whether we truly have control over our lives or if we are simply surviving in a kind of democratic slavery that we accept without realizing it. We chose this concept because it's a very relevant theme that invites reflection. We live in a society where anxiety crises, depression, and even suicide are common. We are immersed in an over-medicated and numbed society.

3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?

The songs have primarily emerged from riffs composed by our guitarist Randy. From there, I help with the structure and arrangements (sometimes the songs start from drum rhythms, but that hasn't been the case with this album). Afterward, we present the songs to the rest of the band, where each member contributes ideas, modifications, and so on.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

It's very difficult to choose a single song, but if we had to pick one, it would be "144," mainly because it's quite different from the songs on the first and second albums. It's a dark, heavy, and aggressive track, but at the same time, it has a more atmospheric and melodic interlude. This song would represent the darkest and heaviest side of Dekta.

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what is it?

There are two main messages in the album. One is the importance of finding time for oneself and using it for personal growth and improvement. The other is the fight against authoritarianism and state control. Overall, it’s a defense of personal freedom and a call for both individual and collective responsibility, because there is no freedom without responsibility.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

Yes, for example, in "Perception," I address the topic of freedom of speech and the new moralities being imposed on us by various media. It touches on cancel culture and the black-and-white way of viewing life, which polarizes society. This is something that political parties (and the media funded by these same parties) use to divide us, instead of focusing on what unites us and what we have in common.

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

In general, it is the Metal of the '90s that inspires us musically. We grew up musically during that time. Primarily, we take influences from bands like Pantera, Machine Head, and Testament, and groups like In Flames, and Killswitch Engage. Vocally, we also draw inspiration from bands like Alter Bridge, Tool, and Lamb of God.

8. Something to add?

We just want to say, give us a listen, and if you like our proposal, follow us. Here are some links where you can follow us:
