Interviews About Albums: Inborn Suffering - Pale Grey Monochrome (2024)
In this new interview, we sat down with the French Death Metal/Doom Metal band Inborn Suffering to ask questions about their album, "Pale Grey Monochrome".
1. What can you say about this new album?
I just can say that is the most sincere thing we have done so far. Not only with the lyrics but also with this new way of long-distance composition. A huge amount of work has been done and it’s not only another Wordless Hope or another Regression To Nothingness album but something different. Maybe something more mature, more direct.
2. What is the meaning of the album name?
Probably the past three years of my life. I have been stuck at home during the last years with depression, and all were absolutely grey and...boring, with a great lack of interest in things, in life, motivation, etc…like a pale grey monochrome.
3. Which one is the composer of the album?
This time the main composition was made by Laurent, except 'The Oak' and some arrangements by Stephane, who was busy with his other band (Fractal Gates).
4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?
In my opinion, 'Tales From An Empty Shell', because it was the first song we had started composing after our twelve years hiatus and the dawn of a new era for us. There are some strong lyrics in it and a great atmosphere.
5. Is there a special message in this album? If there is what is it?
The main theme of the album is depressive disorders in various forms. I really hope that our music will help some people to recover from this terrible thing. I think this is the message we want to share with our music.
6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?
These are the first lyrics I did for the song 'The Oak'. I didn’t feel very well - with the theme of the album - and later they were rewritten by Stephane.
So I will share here these abandoned words...
THE OAK
Living apart from the other ones, rested an old oak,
Reigning over a bed of leaves dressed in a magnificent coat.
While human life were emptying, the oak was here, filling his lung breathing the air
Over and over letting willows, maples and lindens in their descent into Hell
...until the first snow comes.
Despite struggling and spreading his roots to regain rights over mankind, braving stone and steel, destroying the marks of an abject civilization, the oak, once majestic, appeared as emptied of all life, withered, revealing his weaknesses to the world, suffocating, his heart beating desesperatly.
He began to wonder if all the strenght he has deployed still made sense. Humanity was destroying all, corrupting all he once knew. He was emptying while the others were spreading and breathing
Over and over letting the oak in his descent into hell
until the dawn of the lights...
7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?
Laurent was really inspired to compose this album. He had a lot of ideas, and i think he brought something new, some fresh air to this new album. There was a lot of motivation doing these new songs, probably reuniting the band again has inspired us more than expected? I don’t know.
8. Something to add?
First, thank you for taking the time to share with us these questions.
I hope our music will be appreciated and will touch a lot of people.
