Interviews About Albums: Zen Disdain - Inanition (2024)
In this new interview, we sat down with the Dutch Blackened Doom Metal/Blackened Death Metal band Zen Disdain to ask questions about their album, "Inanition".
1. What can you say about "Inanition"?
This is our debut album, filled with all kinds of feelings and emotions, it talks about inner struggles, often shown through the prism of various manifestations of nature.
But also a fun fact worth sharing, in 2019 before even thinking about starting a new band, let alone knowing about Zen Disdain, our guitarist got this idea to write an album in a month, and he did it, which later got the name of “Inanition”, of course, it took us a bit more than a month to release it, but it is finally being released, and we couldn't be happier about it.
2. What is the meaning of the "Inanition" name?
As the dictionary states Inanition is an exhaustion caused by lack of nourishment or lack of mental or spiritual vigour and enthusiasm. After ending a band that we poured all our heart and soul into and gave 7 years of our lives we were defeated and devastated, so this exhaustion or inanition was all that was left for us at that point. Therefore this title came to us very naturally, for some time we even thought of naming our band Inanition, before coming up with the name Zen Disdain, but then we decided to name our debut album Inanition, which sounds very fitting.
3. Which one is the composer of the "Inanition"?
The one and only composer of the entire album is our guitarist Dmitrii Prihodko, with some vocal line additions from our singer.
4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?
Well, it greatly depends on the mood of the listener, we have different songs for different states of being, but if it’s necessary to pick only one, let it be “The Woods”, it captures and encapsulates various emotions that this album holds.
5. Is there a special message in "Inanition"? If there is what it is?
We don’t think this album has any particular message, we just did what felt right at that moment in time.
6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?
No really, but if you’d like to read them, you can just check them out on the streaming platforms or our Bandcamp page, along with listening to the songs of course ;)
7. Which inspirations have been important for "Inanition"? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?
The main sources of inspiration are our inner struggles, so we can simply thank life for giving it to us :)
8. Something to add?
First of all, we want to thank you Breathing The Core for interviewing us, and for the people reading this, we just want to ask you to support independent artists. We don’t even ask you to buy our merch (even though this also would be nice), but listening to our music on streaming platforms, going to our shows, or even just leaving a simple comment on our social media, just this alone will boost our spirits and motivation to create more music in the future. So please listen to our music, and share your opinions about it, it means the world to us.
