Interviews: Blu Mamuth
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Industrial Metal band Blu Mamuth from Italy. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, did you plan it or come out just like that?
The idea of the name Blu Mamuth is the same as the genre that we do: it wants to link the color of a dystopic future, for us Blue, with the ancestral wisdom of the Earth, the memory, Mamuth.
That in some languages means also Mother. Blue is the color of magic too. A perfect circle.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
In the previous project that we had together, there was yet a large use of electronic sound, the next step was to leave real instruments, also because we are just two.
Anyway we want to do the music that we want to hear, and it represents who we are, V behind every kind of machine and Z to everything else.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yes, we had another project before, in which we played for a long time; having both the same view of music and the will to change with it, we decided to start this new voyage completely different still together.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
V: Surely for me Trent Reznor and David Bowie most of all.
Z: A Perfect Circle, Tool, Jethro Tull
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
The deep need to do it. It’s a kind of hunger that moves on to express ourselves which evolves inside. The right answer could be that we cannot live without doing this.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our Last gig was in a particular, suggestive club in Genoa, Zapata, one of the few community centers where the actual administration of our town didn’t close. We are also excited for the next, in a beautiful club in a theatre, for the first time playing with a live painter who’ll paint an enormous canvas during our concert.
7. Where would you like to act?
Everywhere. Everyday.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
With every kind of artist of every kind of art that shares with us the same hunger that we spoke about before. V also says Trent Reznor again...
9. Whom not?
Everyone who thinks that art is just a way to feel someone and earn money. Anyway surely with Trapper.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
V: When I play on a stage I’m always anxious, it feels to me just like going to fight or to go to war. But the sensation after the show is a great peace. The only tip that I can recommend is: to get drunk, a little bit!
Z: The hours before the show are the most difficult, especially the worst moment for me is a sound check, don’t know why. But in the instant I step feet on the stage (usually naked to feel more contact with the place) everything becomes natural and goes slowly. My tipi is just Breathe deep and jump.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
V: All the 70’s prog rock, the industrial scene of the ’80s, David Bowie, Franco Battiato, Nine Inch Nails.
Z: Quite of all Folk Music, and traditional music from almost every culture, Tool, Dead can dance.. and..
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
A Bis? We play without any pauses between songs, a Bis would mean a new concert from the beginning to the end.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Fans are a special key to understanding our work, always they help us to listen and feel from another point of view that haven’t noticed.
Especially, we have in our hearts one of them, that enjoyed our previous project and continue throughout fifteen years to listen to our music also in the new one. Often we write to each other to know how it’s going.
And he lives halfway around the world, in Texas. Lovely.
14. What do you think of our site?
We think that is a great idea for a new band, which needs to share its music and thoughts. There’s a cure behind your work, and we really appreciate it! Thank you!
15. Something to add?
Music is a way to live and we are really excited about our new voyage. We want you to taste it!
