Interviews: Maison Dieu
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Doom Metal/Rock band Maison Dieu from Italy. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?
One evening while trying to find the name of the band, a bit for fun, we drew a card from a deck of tarot cards and card number 16 came out, “Maison Dieu”, the meaning fully reflected our music and we decided to call ourselves that.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
It wasn’t a real choice and we don’t like to label ourselves in general. All 3 of us come from different genres and during the jam sessions our sound is naturally created, we have a very precise identity but we are always evolving, people and insiders call us "Mystic Doom"
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yes we have known each other since 2012, we had another band together of a completely different genre and we all played 3 different instruments, the band was formed by chance when between one break and another we exchanged instruments to play a bit
4. Each band member's favorite band?
It is always a difficult choice regarding the choice of favorite bands because the music is so varied and beautiful that it is difficult to make real choices but if we had to choose at this moment they would be these:
Ester: Chelsea Wolfe
Ivan: Falling in reverse
Mauro: Beatles.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Generally, we start from a vocal melodic line, some ideas brought by Ester, and through thes,e we build together the actual structure of the song. There are no fixed rules for the composition and often and willingly we let ourselves be carried away by the current of the moment without too much forcing.
6. Where was your last gig?
We played in our city (Senigallia) it was a concert on the beach that brought together our closest fans and friends.
7. Where would you like to act?
We noticed with great pleasure that people outside Italy tend to be more flexible and curious about new music and art in general.
In particular, in Poland, Germany, and France we had great feedback and we would certainly like to explore those areas... but we are ready to discover others too.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
We would always like to be part of contexts similar to us, surely among the big bands we mention the "Messa" "Chelsea Wolfe" and "Heilung"
9. Whom not?
Ehehe we don't like to name names because we love playing live, certainly unpleasant situations happen and we try not to repeat them.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Real fear I would say no, but surely working a lot with the energy of music each context is different, and easier and less easy situations can happen emotionally. The advice is to concentrate on the music and find a way to break the tension with the band before the concert.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Personally, I believe that there are no specific bands that have deeply influenced us during our compositions if not indirectly at least. Our genre is the result of a mixture of multiple sounds.
We like to think that we are unique in this sense and it would be too restrictive to list the influences of each of us.
Music is art and creativity and we need mental elasticity to ensure that the final product convinces us.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Up to no,w we have not had particularly strange episodes from fans.
13. What do you think of your fans?
In many concerts, we have been lucky enough to find fantastic people who have completely merged with our music, and we aim to find more and more of them.
14. What do you think of our site?
We think that you are very good at welcoming new music, sites like yours are useful to bands.
15. Something to add?
Thank you very much for the interview! See you next time.
