Interviews: Megaton Communion

On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Stoner Rock / Desert Rock band Megaton Communion from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?

The band name comes from "Beneath the Planet of the Apes". There was a cult in the film that worshipped the atomic bomb.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

This genre is the common ground between all of the members in the band. we all have different musical influences, but this style binds us together.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Derrick is Joe's oldest son and Ryan is his long-time friend for nearly 20 years. We've known each other for a long time for sure.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

We like a lot of different bands. It would have to be Black Sabbath for Joe and Sound Garden for Derrick and Ryan.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We're inspired by a lot of different music in heavy and progressive genres but I think our real inspiration comes from each other and the things happening around us.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was at Ignite Brewing in Brunswick, Ohio. It was a really cool show.

7. Where would you like to act?

We would love to play some of the European festivals and share the stage with artists representing everything heavy and groovy. I think our style makes us compatible

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

With a lot of different bands.

9. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Stage fright. Yeah. I guess. It hasn't been anything crippling, though. We usually have a drink before we go on and bring one up to take the edge off. Our confidence in each other helps a lot and we always remind ourselves that we're playing for friends. Our fans are our friends. We're hanging out and jamming.
10. What bands have inspired you the most?

The bands that have inspired us the most are Black Sabbath, Soundgarden, Thrice, Tool, Alice in Chains, and Kyuss.

11. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

The weirdest thing any fan has asked us for is Derrick's used, worn, stage garments. That one did give us a good laugh and we harassed Derrick about that for a few weeks.

12. What do you think of your fans?

Our fans are great! We love being connected with them through social media. We've had the privilege of getting to know so many of them personally because of that. They definitely inspire us to be the best we can be.

13. What do you think of our site?

Breathing The Core Zine is fantastic! Connecting people with new music is really a great thing that requires a lot of time and passion. They are doing a great job with that and it's not going unnoticed.

14. Something to add?

We are really enjoying this journey and look forward to sharing many more years of music with our fans. We're not forgetting to have fun along the way and hope to meet many of them along the way. Cheers!
