Interviews: Misscore

On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Heavy Rock band Misscore from Poland. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or did it just come out like that?

The name was created in 2010 for my first band, and it somehow stuck with me. We checked if there were any other bands with the same name and searched for a word that didn’t have any specific meaning or associations. We leave the interpretation to the audience.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Since childhood, I’ve listened to bands like Linkin Park, Bring Me the Horizon, Guano Apes, and Paramore, and I always wanted to mix similar music styles. Initially, our sound was lighter, lively, and upbeat, but over time, we added heavier riffs until we arrived at a blend of electronic, metal, rock, and light melodic lines.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

The lineup in which we recorded the albums Drown and Hypocrisy came together between 2015 and 2016. In September this year, Krystian, our guitarist, left the band for personal reasons, and his place was taken by Maciej, whom I met around 2021 when we played a concert together with his other band at the Rock am Palast festival. We’ve been organizing this festival for three editions now. We started composing the album Drown at the end of 2019, and three of us remain from that lineup: the vocalist (me), the drummer (Jarek), and the keyboardist/bassist (Mateusz).

4. Each band member's favorite band?

For me, it’s still Bring Me the Horizon, which I’ve introduced to everyone in the band. Mateusz really likes Dream Theater. Jarek is a fan of the ld Avenged Sevenfold. We haven’t asked Maciej about his fav band yet. :)

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Usually, the inspiration comes from something I’m thinking about, something that’s been weighing on me, making me happy, or motivating me. I often record a melody on a voice recorder that already includes keywords related to the theme. These words get so attached to the melody that I try to write the lyrics in a way that preserves as many of them as possible from the original demo. It doesn’t always work, and sometimes the words don’t fit the overall concept, so I replace them. When I write music, the instrumental layer often inspires me. Ideas usually come naturally.

6. Where was your last gig?

Recently, we’ve been busy preparing for the album release, recording music videos, and getting ready for a music casting. We deliberately didn’t plan any concerts for the end of this year. Our last full-length concert was with a Latvian band in Krakow, which was also our guitarist Krystian’s final show. Now, we’re planning a new show and composing new songs with Maciej, as we want him to have a bigger musical role.

7. Where would you like to play?

We’d definitely like to perform at outdoor festivals. Personally, I dream of playing on the YouTube Stage at the Rock for People Festival, Poland’s Mystic Festival, and Download Festival. And of course, our own concert tour, but we still have some work to do before we can embark on one.

8. Who would you like to support?

Of course, the biggest ones! ;) I’d love to meet Taylor Momsen from The Pretty Reckless Sandra from Guano Apes, and now Emily from Linkin Park. I dream of supporting Sevendust – I’ve never seen them live, so I could listen to them as much as I want from backstage!

9. Who not?

I don’t really have a "no-go" option. I definitely wouldn’t want to support someone with disgusting beliefs, who’s rude or doesn’t respect others.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Stage fright is an inseparable part of performing. Sometimes it paralyzes you, but more often, it motivates you. I think it’s hardest to play for a small audience – I personally get horribly stressed in those situations. And we don’t like playing in front of juries, but who does? For me, repeating to myself, "You’re doing what you love!" turns paralyzing fear into motivation.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Each of us listens to different music and has different inspirations, and the band is a blend of those ideas. You’ll find a mix inspired by Bring Me the Horizon, Paramore, Evanescence, Lacuna Coil, Within Temptation, Sevendust, Guano Apes, Halestorm, Linkin Park, Dream Theater, Steve Vai, and more.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

That is an interesting question, but I think the strangest one was someone asking if I’d marry them. The only answer I could muster was laughter.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We love our fans! After every concert, we take photos with them, chat, have a beer, and follow each other on social media. We play fairly melodic music, not always danceable, so our fans come more to listen than to jump around. We really respect them for that!

14. What do you think of our site?

I really enjoy interviews – they’re not stiff, so we can say something different than "Where are you from, and what do you play?" That’s why talking to you is more interesting than with other outlets. We’re thrilled to be featured on your platform!

15. Something to add?

Greetings from Poland to all BTC readers!
