Interviews: My Darkest Red

This is a new interview with the Dark "N" Roll artist My Darkest Red from Italy. Check out the interview and follow the band on their INSTAGRAM PROFILE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?

Andrea Verginella: The name came out after an evening in a pub, when we were drinking beer and talking about our music. After proposing some names we all agreed that “My Darkest Red” was the one, as it concerns something personal, deep, strongly emotional, and obscure.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Fabio Perini: I grew up listening to hard rock and then I fell in love with gothic metal and dark wave. The desire to experiment by trying to combine these influences, together with those of my bandmates, without worrying too much about ‘labels’, made us evolve naturally in this direction.

Andrea Verginella: ‘cause I like it loud.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Fabio Perini: Yes, we already knew each other as we played in two different bands from the same area: Poisonheart and Dreamhunter. Having friends in the band, and reliable people is a great advantage and I can say that this line-up is really strong.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Fabio Perini: Depending on my mood I say Black Sabbath, W.A.S.P., Moonspell, and The 69 Eyes.

Andrea Verginella: Queen (1973 - 1991)

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Fabio Perini: Most of the time all I have to do is read a movie title, a book, or a sentence to spark my imagination and create a story on a lyrical level from which I then develop a vocal melody. I often start with the vocal melody, and then with my bandmates, we build the musical part of the song around it.

Andrea Verginella: Exploring the darkest places in my mind and my soul has always been a great inspiration.

6. Where was your last gig?

Fabio Perini: our last show has not yet taken place. We are a new band and we are working on bringing a top-notch show to the stage, both musically and visually.

7. Where would you like to act?

Andrea Verginella: Wacken :-)

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Fabio Perini: Fernando Ribeiro from Moonspell. I think his voice is really incredible.

Andrea Verginella: Christian "Flake" Lorenz from Rammstein.

9. Whom not?

Andrea Verginella: I don't feel like excluding anyone who is authentic and not manipulated by market interests.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Fabio Perini: Fortunately I have never suffered from it. I like being on stage and feeling the adrenaline during the show and the reaction of the audience.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Fabio Perini: In addition to the artists I mentioned earlier, I believe that in My Darkest Red, I brought some of my appreciation for The Sisters Of Mercy, Alice Cooper, HIM.

Andrea Verginella: Rammstein, Megadeth, and Iron Maiden.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Fabio Perini: Once, when I was a lead guitarist after a concert a young boy asked me if I could give him guitar lessons. It was gratifying and unexpected because there were much better guitarists than me on stage that night!

13. What do you think of your fans?

Fabio Perini: As Ozzy would say… “I love you all!”
