Interviews: Never On Sunday II
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Blues Rock band Never On Sunday II from Greece. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, did you plan it or come out just like
that?
The name of the band comes from Jules Dassin’s 1960 film "Never on
Sunday”. The film takes place in the port city of Piraeus, where the band’s
story begins.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Despite the differences between us in terms of musical background and
influences, the blues brought us together. We all wanted to play the blues.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Some of us knew each other from before. When the band formed we became
friends.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Alexandros (bass): Morphine
Andonis (guitar): Grateful Dead
Babis (drums): Tool
Dimitra (piano/keys): Pink Floyd
George (guitar): Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band
Thodoris (sax): Steps Ahead
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
The tension that exists between everyday life and “the unknown”, is what
drives me to write songs.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig was at the Athina Live Stage of The Art Music School Fakanas
where played with the psychedelic blues rock trio Bronco Tank.
7. Where would you like to act?
Do you mean in which film would we like to act as a band? Probably in an Aki
Kaurismaki or a Jim Jarmusch film. Live music seems to play an integral part
in their films, especially rock bands. Robert Altman is another director
whose films I would like our band to play in, but he’s not with us anymore.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Taj Mahal, Blackberry Smoke, Samantha Fish, Tab Benoit, Gary Clark Jr,
Tedeschi Trucks Band, and any project Billy Gibbons might be participating in at
the moment.
9. Whom not?
There are quite a few bands I really don’t care for, such as U2 or Coldplay for
example. But it would be stupid to say no to an opportunity to play with
anybody who is famous and can help you gain exposure and expand your
audience.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how
to beat that?
I have personally never suffered from stage fright per se, but there have
been times in the past when I felt nervous and uneasy on stage. The best tip I
can give is to be prepared as much as you can, but once you are on stage, just
relax and have fun, interact with your bandmates and the audience. Conditions
in a live show are very rarely ideal and usually, you suffer from all sorts of
setbacks, like bad club owners or just awful sound. Just try to enjoy it once
you’re on that stage.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
The Grateful Dead, Rolling Stones, Little Feat, Morphine, Thin Lizzy, Wishbone
Ash, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Colosseum, Steps Ahead, Grand Funk Railroad,
Tool, Opeth, Dream Theater and many more.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
No one has asked anything so far, other than “Can you play some more”?
13. What do you think of your fans?
They are usually people who just like to sit back, have a glass of good whiskey, and enjoy the music.
14. What do you think of our site?
Well, you promote new bands. That’s great!
15. Something to add?
Support the bands you love in any way you can!
