Interviews: Shadow Of The Talisman

On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Alternative Thrash Metal band Shadow Of The Talisman from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

A: So as much as we want there to be some meaningful reason for the name, really it just sounded cool. We wanted Shadow in there somewhere, and I believe we were making the logo at the same time, we thought that it would be cool if the eye was attached to an amulet or piece of jewelry, so Talisman was the outcome of that.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

A: Music is my passion, and metal always had the most passion for me. Pair that with my love for anything with a guitar in it and it was a no-brainer.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

A: Some of the guys did like Kyle knew Zack and Eli, and Eli knew Owen. I was leaving my previous band and found them as an already-established band. They were looking for a lead singer, and I was sold as soon as I saw them ripping Master of Puppets which is my favorite song.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

A: Owen and I have a love for Metallica, Eli’s favorite band is Megadeth, Kyle’s is Avenged Sevenfold and Tool, and Zack’s favorites jump between Avenged Sevenfold and Guns N’ Roses.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

A: I wouldn’t say there is one specific thing that makes me want to write. I gain inspiration from my personal experiences or stories from others. Most of the time, I just sit there listening to the rest of the guys come up with the amazing riffs and songs they do, and I apply lyrics to what fits the song.

6. Where was your last gig?

A: The last gig we played, which by far was our most important and absolute favorite was at The Machine Shop in Flint, MI. This place is legendary and has had huge acts come through for years, and it’s in our hometown as well! The Machine Shop has been on all our bucket lists for a long time!

7. Where would you like to act?

A: The dream for me would be Pine Knob. Huge pavilion, huge stage, anybody and everybody has been there. You know you’re in the big time if you’re playing Pine Knob.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

A: Either with Avenged Sevenfold or Metallica. Those two right there were my biggest inspirations so to collaborate with them in any way would be amazing.

9. Whom not?

A: We’ve played with a lot of different shows with bands that weren’t our genre or even close to what we’re doing, and we’ve had a blast with all of them. So, the answer is we’ll play with anyone and everyone!

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

A: Honestly, I’m still a little nervous before shows, and that doesn’t really go away. My advice would be, to embrace the fact that you’re nervous, because that just means you care about what you do, and that passion should always be with you.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

A: Metallica, Avenged Sevenfold, and Foo Fighters are my top three. There are so many reasons why, but the two most important things to me as a musician are the live performance, and album structure. Those three bands do those two things perfectly in my opinion.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

A: So far, knock on wood, nothing super crazy. I’ve been asked to sign some weird, but cool things. This guy once brought a guitar to the show, which had a ton of signatures already on it and I was honored to add mine to it! Also had a guy show me a magic trick at the merch table which was out of nowhere, but cool!

13. What do you think of your fans?

A: Absolutely love them and all the support and all the love everyone has shown us in the last few years. I love being able to talk shop with our fans after the set. Really getting to know them and what they liked and what they connected with.

14. What do you think of our site?

A: The site is great! Was able to check out a couple new bands and it’s awesome that Breathing The Core allows you to do so!

15. Something to add?

A: Honestly nothing! Keep up the good stuff and long live metal!
