Interviews: The Tale Untold

On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Metal band The Tale Untold from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, did you plan it?

We were trying to come up with a name for our project, and our guitarist Jon threw out "The Tale Untold." We sat on it for a second, and it just felt right. So we rolled with it.

2 . Why did you want to play this genre?

When we began the band, we didn't have a specific genre that we intended to stick with which allowed us to naturally grow and explore different genres and ideas. We knew we all loved metal, and we knew it was going to be a Metal project, but other than that, we let ourselves explore our sound. Even now, we aren't confined to one specific genre. When asked, we say that we're either Poppy Djent or Pop Core. Mixing elements of EDM and pop with metal is a personal reflection of our taste. We'll continue to grow and change our style as the band carries on. We're even excited to see what comes out of our brains next!

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Kind of... but not really. Jon and Jack were in a band before starting this project. Jon posted that they were looking for a female vocalist to add to their current band. I was looking to get back into music after taking a small break so I responded to the post. We ended up scrapping the idea of adding me to their current band and ended up starting from scratch. Jon then reached out to Ashlee to play drums. Our first time jamming felt like lightning in a bottle, and we all just clicked. After a few months of making music together, we found our original bassist (Brandon) who ended up quitting last year. He wanted to focus on his family and banking career, and we totally understood. After that, we were incredibly lucky to find Cole. We were on a short tour with another band, and he actually played guitar for that band. I don't know what it was, but we all just instantly clicked with him. He was fixing our RV one day on tour, and I asked him if he played bass. After the tour ended we asked him to join the band.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Ashlee (our drummer): Slipknot, I Prevail, Wage War, SleepToken, Dayseeker

Jon (guitar): Northlane, Like Moth To Flames, Pierce the Veil, Suicide Silence, Couterparts

Jack (gutiar/vocals): Erra, Rage Against The Machine, Northlane, Metallica, Wage War

Cole (bass): After The Curial, Bodysnatcher, Emmure, Alpha Wolf, Darko US

Myself (Eliss, vocals, hi): Manchester Orchestra, Bad Omens, Wage War, Coldplay, Killswitch Engage (This was a very difficult question for Cole and myself)

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Our writing process is kind of two-phased. Jon will write the music and then I'll come in with lyrics and vocals. Sometimes we'll adjust the music and structure as we figure out what flows the best as well. For lyrics, I like to write about what's been ruminating in my head at the time. I'll listen to the music, and just focus on the feeling and see what comes to me.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was The Slowdown in Omaha, NE. We were finishing up a little run with our friends in Iced Wrist and ended with a really fun hometown show.

7. Where would you like to act?

We would love to play at larger festivals and eventually tour abroad. We have a decent fan base in Australia and the UK. It would be fun to make it out there sooner rather than later.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

I really enjoy working with other bands to see their process. The top bands that would be fun to work with would be Gojira, Bad Omens, or Fit For A King.

9. Whom not?

There isn't anybody that I would pass on. Everything is a learning experience, and I'm grateful to learn and work with anybody.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Someone told me a long time ago that the body can't tell the difference between the feeling of being scared and the feeling of being excited. So any time I feel scared, I just tell myself that I'm excited. Sometimes you just need to be brave. Everyone gets scared, it's normal.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Business-wise, Metallica. They built themselves from nothing and have staying power.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Socks... They asked if I would wear a pair of socks and mail them to them... I declined. Haha

13. What do you think of your fans?

They're amazing. We have incredibly supportive people who follow us, and I appreciate each and every one of them. They make me comfortable enough to be myself, and they allow us the grace to grow as a band. They're rooting for us, and we can't thank them enough for listening, spreading our music, and always being so supportive.

14. What do you think of our site?

I think you are great. I appreciate that you are willing to open your forum to new and upcoming bands. You are really doing great work.

15. Something to add?

Thank you so much for your time. We are honored to be interviewed, and we hope that people check out our music along with our latest LP Counterculture.
