Track By Tracks: Synlakross - Mental Parasites (2024)
Mental Parasites is the fifth album by the Spanish band SynlakrosS.
The songs on this album are inspired by personality disorders, as well as thoughts and
attitudes that parasitize our mind, turning it into a hostile place and making us live in hell.
It’s a very thought-provoking and devastatingly honest album.
The lyrics have been written by Patricia Pons, singer of the band.
They are inspired by their own experiences, or by people they know with these disorders.
It's a very personal album, but many people can relate to these lyrics.
1. Cherry On Top:
It's a song of empowerment and resilience.
Inspired by the damage that envy does and how it can transform people into cruel and
heartless creatures.
2. Bunnies And Bows:
Lyrics are full of protest and irony and were designed to empower those people who suffer
or have suffered discrimination, oppression or harassment by a sexist and toxic figure.
This is a problem that is still very current and that not only affects women.
3. Freak:
'Freak' denounces harassment, bullying, and all types of discrimination and hatred.
Insults are reappropriated and reinterpreted as a form of rebellion and empowerment.
It's a celebration of what makes us “weird”, different, and special.
4. Mental Breakdown:
This song is about the experience of having a mental breakdown when anxiety peaks and
you collapse.
Due to the social pressure and depression that leads you to this mental crisis we can all
identify with this song.
There's a lot of work to be done in the field of mental health.
It's a social debate that we should talk about more and more often.
5. Paranoid:
Inspired by Paranoia.
Paranoia is the irrational and persistent feeling that people are ‘out to get you’ or that you
are the subject of persistent, intrusive attention by others.
This unfounded mistrust of others can make it difficult for a person with paranoia to
function socially or have close relationships.
6. Drama Queen:
Inspired by Histrionic personality disorder.
This disorder is characterized by a pattern of excessive attention-seeking behaviors and
an excessive desire for approval.
People diagnosed with the disorder are lively, dramatic, vivacious, enthusiastic,
extroverted, and flirtatious. They have a high desire for attention, make loud and
inappropriate appearances ,and exaggerate their behaviors and emotions.
Associated features include egocentrism, self-indulgence, continuous longing for
appreciation, and persistent manipulative behavior to achieve their own wants.
7. Popcorn:
Inspired by a bad experience of being harassed by a fan who seemed straight out of a
horror story, a bit of fiction is added to the song's lyrics.
8. Dickhead:
Inspired by narcissistic personality disorder and toxic masculinity.
Narcissistic personality disorder involves a pattern of self-centered, arrogant thinking and
behavior, a lack of empathy and consideration for other people, and an excessive need for
admiration.
They might be aggressive, paranoid, or sadistic, taking joy in other people’s pain.
9. Razor Blade:
Inspired by how sadness and depression make us fall into a dark hole full of despair where
suicide seems to be the only way out to end this endless cycle of suffering.
An endless cycle of suffering that no one really wants to experience.
