Behind The Scenes: EKTÖR - Alame (Official Video)

Alarme is the second clip from our latest album “Ektöristan”. Our music is often described as cinematic; we've had the opportunity to compose soundtracks for quite a few film directors, but never before to control and produce something that looks like us. On this occasion, we had no preconceptions, the only idea being that we didn't want to appear on screen. Bands who show off their egos in video clips make us laugh, nothing else.

Our abilities as directors or cinematographers are nil. When it comes to shooting, we've always been limited by our knowledge and our total lack of technical and financial resources.

It all changed thanks to a providential encounter with our friend Dodaï Mix and the new image generation software. Suddenly, our most improbable fantasies were within our grasp.

The snail is the national symbol of Ektöristan, our virtual land described in the album. Like any self-respecting artist, we want to conquer the planet. One analogy later, the scenario was set: gastropods as the new masters of the world!
Image generation was a bit tedious, involving 2D creation, animations, multiple useless attempts, calculation time, etc. The text-based storyboard was finalized live according to the visual interest of the sequences proposed by the machine. With no money, we had to juggle multiple accounts and web browsers to create as many rushes as possible. As with audio sampling, working with this type of technology leaves plenty of room for chance and sometimes takes us into unsuspected territory.

Editing was almost a piece of cake, with a lot of resetting and a narrative that was difficult to set up. On the other hand, the choice of black and white spared us any colorimetric problems.

Creating this video and working with new tools of expression took us to a whole new level in terms of quality and artistic freedom. Once again, mutual help and goodwill enabled us to bring this project to a successful conclusion. We're proud of the result we achieved, for a colossal budget of 50 euros invested entirely in beer.
