Interviews About Albums: Soul Syphon - Reality Is Bleak (2025)

In this new interview, we sat down with the American Metalcore artist Soul Syphon to ask questions about his album, "Reality Is Bleak".

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

I've put a lot of time and effort into this release. I've handled almost all aspects of this project with the exceptions of the stream videos/visualizers and the recording/producing. Huge shoutout to my homie Jeremy Jones for taking care of all that. I'm also filming and editing the music video for the second single "Privileged Hands" on my own as well as handling all of the promotion and creating the album artwork. So this is a very personal release for me in all aspects. The EP touches on subjects such as mental health and loss. Things that I feel like we all can relate to.

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

The meaning behind the title "Reality is Bleak" comes from some internal struggles I was going through at the time. Our reality is a reflection of how we feel. I was suffering from depression and writing these songs was my way of coping.

3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?

Answered this question in my first answer.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

I think if I had to pick one song it would have to be "Elegy".

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what is it?

The message behind this EP is that if you're going through struggles you're not alone and there are always people that can relate and empathize with you.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

One of my favorite lyrics would have to be the first couple of lines in "Disconnection"

"Lately it feels like I've been talking to ghosts
Might as well talk to God cause neither one will respond
Silhouettes just playing pretend
And here I thought they were my friends...

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

Some bands that have inspired me are Knocked Loose, Kublai Khan, Traitors, and Thrown. I'd once again just like to thank Jeremy Jones for making this EP sound so good.

8. Something to add?

I don't have anything else to add. Thank you so much for your time, interest, and support! It's greatly appreciated! Can you send me a link to the interview article when it is published?
