Interviews About Albums: Tria Prima - Three Primes Of Alchemy (2025)
In this new interview, we sat down with the Ukrainian Death Metal band Tria Prima to ask questions about their album, "Three Primes Of Alchemy".
1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?
We as a band made three awesome death metal songs plus a cover of the Asphyx track from scratch for a short period of three months to give the world a new perspective on the death metal genre by using an alchemic theme, doom, and dungeon synth elements.
2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?
Three Primes of Alchemy, according to Paracelsus is the three primary substances (basic symbols) (Latin Tria Prima) used in alchemy.
They are:
1. Sulfur – The fluid connecting the High and the Low. Sulfur was used to denote the expansive force, evaporation, and dissolution.
2. Mercury — The omnipresent spirit of life. Mercury was believed to transcend the liquid and solid states. The belief carried over into other areas, as mercury was thought to transcend life/death and heaven/earth.
3. Salt — Base matter. Salt represents the contractive force, condensation, and crystallization.
The Primes are related to the Law of the Triangle, in which two components come together to produce the third. Paracelsus devised the three primes from the alchemist's Sulfur-Mercury Ratio, which was the belief that each metal was made from a specific ratio of sulfur and mercury and that metal could be converted into any other metal by adding or removing sulfur. So, if one believed this to be true, it made sense lead could be converted into gold if the correct protocol could be found for adjusting the amount of sulfur.
3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?
Most of the songs are composed by our bassist Serg. Me and drummer Yura tried our best to add something to this song and I also composed the song "Witchcraft Salt" from the EP in collaboration with Serg.
4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?
"Solar Sulfur" for sure. On the EP it`s the song that I had put most of my soul into vocals, especially on the chorus so for that reason I love it the most because every time we rehearse it, I scream the chorus as loud and as powerful as I can.
5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what is it?
I would prefer to give listeners an opportunity to think of it by themselves.
6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?
Here`s some lyrics for the first verse from the song "Solar Sulfur":
Power of sun is in his hands,
Nowhere to run from burning death!
Fire triangle flies from Greece,
Acid gas penetrates their skins.
Yellow crystal, spirit of men,
Source of power used by old man.
Beams of heat straight from hell,
Flesh is melting, Phoebos is dead.
Love these lyrics because from the beginning you can tell that a huge story awaits you while listening to the track and EP as a whole. Overall a lot of sense and references are included in just a bit of lyrics, but still, I won`t tell you much more of it so listeners can do it by themselves.
7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?
We took inspiration from Katatonia`s album "Brave Murder Day" to play not just death but also doom metal as well. Obviously, we couldn`t make this EP truly alchemic-related without going into some scientific works of world-known alchemists such as Paracelsus for example. I by myself took some inspiration from Greek mythology to add some references to Greek gods and stuff for a reason.
8. Something to add?
We are excited for you to listen to our EP "Three Primes of Alchemy" on all musical platforms!
