Interviews: Plasticdrop
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Heavy Rock band Plasticdrop from Italy. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, did you plan it or come out just like that?
The idea was born from the bassist's passion for serial killers and, specifically, for the TV show Dexter, in which "plastic drop" is often used to keep the crime scene clean moreover, we were looking for something catchy, we think plastic drops sound quite good.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We didn’t consciously choose the genre we played; it was a natural path based on the musical tastes of all the members.
We have never planned to play a particular genre, if you listen to the upcoming album every song is different, that’s what comes up when we play together without thinking about it.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Absolutely yes, we’ve known each other for almost 20 years since all three of us come from the same town (Quartu Sant'Elena). Beyond a professional relationship, we also share a long-standing friendship.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
None of us has a single favorite band, but rather many bands that have inspired our tastes, spanning a wide variety of genres. Paolo insists on mentioning Alice in Chains, while Martina names Radiohead and Moderat, and Alessandro names
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
The inspiration for composing comes from the need to express ourselves, digging deep within, and drawing from personal experiences and everyday life.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last concert was a performance at a benefit event for Palestine. It was a free participation for a cause we deeply care about.
7. Where would you like to act?
We don’t have specific spots where we prefer to perform. Our main goal is to play to have fun and convey what we think our songs can offer. But small/medium-sized clubs are probably the most suitable places for that mix of warmth that arises between the band and the audience.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
There would be plenty of choices. Probably, Royal Blood is the band that all the members agree on the most, making it the best choice for a collaboration. Or if we could dream big I would say, Josh Homme, we all love Qotsa and he’s an awesome producer and musician.
9. Whom not?
This could spark an interesting debate since, despite having similar musical backgrounds, all the members have bands they adore but that at least one member utterly hates. For instance, Paolo wouldn’t consider a collaboration with Iron Maiden. Martina wouldn’t agree to one with RHCP. Alessandro wouldn’t go for one with Radiohead.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Stage fright is always there, but it’s more of a stage emotion than fear. That feeling is then channeled into the performance, where the emotion truly shines through. The only advice we can give is to have one or two shots of tequila with salt and lime and just go for it!
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
For our project, the Foo Fighters have likely been an influence, intentionally or not, as they perfectly embody the mix of rock/grunge/alternative that represents us so well.
Personally, I would absolutely say “Verdena” (Martina says)
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
We’d prefer our bassist, Martina, to answer this question.
Martina: trust me, You don’t want to know that…
13. What do you think of your fans?
Our fans are amazing. They follow us with passion and, even from the first concerts, have always felt and returned the emotion we try to convey. We love engaging with them on every occasion!
14. What do you think of our site?
It’s awesome! An enviable space for musicians and rock music fans. Platforms like yours can only benefit music, both online and offline. (I haven’t even opened the site, though.)
15. Something to add?
Well, if you have a few days off, come visit us in Sardinia for our album release, scheduled for January 4th at Fabrik in Cagliari (a historic venue in the city). We’re sure it’ll be a blast!
