Interviews: Throne Of Roaches

On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the  Death Metal band Throne Of Roaches from Sweden. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, did you plan it, or come out just like that?

We tried to come up with a band name and one suggestion was worse than the other. Finally, someone dropped the name Throne of Roaches because we already had a song with that name, which can be found on our first EP Infested Dominion. The great thing about that song is that it's about paying homage to the underground metal scene. From the outside, this extreme music might seem dirty and unpleasant, just like cockroaches. But within the culture, everyone is welcoming and just wants to enjoy great music. That's why we're called Throne of Roaches!

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

There is no other genre that can deliver the same amount of energy as Death Metal. It's so intense, even when we have rehearsed a song a thousand times I can feel that raw energy. There is also so much expression in the music, it's really moving.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

No not, really. Martin (vocals & guitar) and Albin (drums) found each other online and started jamming Death cover together. They had some other people playing as well during that time. Then they found Bruce when they were looking for a rhythm guitar guy. Martin and Bruce knew each other by name at that point but not more than that. Then when their current bassist left the band Bruce asked Robin to join the band. He actually asked him the very first time they met at a party but they had some common friends already.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Robin: Orbit Culture

Martin: Shadow of Intent

Bruce: Electric Callboy

Albin: Meshuggah

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Everyone has different ways of writing when it comes to lyrics. Martin tends to make up stories when he writes lyrics, almost like a book or movie. Bruce and Robin write about realities, and problems with this world. Albin hasn’t written any lyrics yet but I’ll bet it would be the nastiest and weirdest shit. I think most songs come from hearing a great song by another band and then wanting to make the same thing but a bit better, and a bit more like Throne of Roaches.

6. Where was your last gig?

Taubertal Festival in Germany. We won the Swedish Emergenza competition and got to play at the Taubertal Festival. It was an awesome experience, our biggest gig yet, and there were lots of crazy Germans in the crowd. Everything is on our YouTube channel so you can go watch it there!

7. Where would you like to act?

The dream is to go to the Sweden Rock Festival, which is our home festival. We are there every year, we have watched so many great bands there and Sweden Rock has fed our musical journey through our lives. So our greatest goal at the moment is to play at the Sweden Rock Festival.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Orbit Culture, great music, seem to be nice people, fans of them could probably like us as well and we could learn a lot from them.

9. Whom not?

Kanye West - Or maybe not too bad, he has a lot of fans, and we could show them some good music and a great live show. But the tour bus would probably be horrible…

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Preparation is key, you should practice so hard all the days leading up to the gig so that you are confident you can make a great show. Then on the day of the show, go easy on yourself. Most errors won’t be noticed, just enjoy the atmosphere around a gig, talk to some people, make jokes, give a high five or two, and go watch other bands.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Death, In Flames, Shadow of Intent, Orbit Culture, Arch Enemy, and the list goes on... Any band can inspire us really. It’s often new album releases that inspire us to listen and have that as input for our own music.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Our fans need to be weirder because I haven’t got a single odd question. So all the weirdos out there, start listening to Throne of Roaches so we can answer this question in a proper way.

13. What do you think of your fans?

It’s fantastic that we released our first music 1½ years ago and we actually have some fans out there in the world and we are so grateful. It feels fantastic that people are enjoying the things we have been working on in our sweaty and dark rehearsal room. We're going to work the hardest we can to get out there and meet them on the road someday!

14. What do you think of our site?

It’s great to see that there are people who actually want to promote new and underground music. It’s crucial to the metal community and we truly appreciate the work you´re putting in.

15. Something to add?

We would like to know how people engage with our music. Where do you listen? At work, at home, when commuting? Share it with us!
