Track By Tracks: Outburst - Devouring The Masses (2025)
1. Intro To Your Nightmare:
I guess most people do not expect a speed/thrash record to begin this way. This was based
on an old melody I wrote about 10 years ago. The idea is to transport a certain type of
feeling you can’t really point your finger on. It balances somewhere between sad and
beautiful but nevertheless, it leaves some feeling of discomfort.
Musically, it could be described as vanguardist-ish, it is rather rare that you hear 16ths on a
12-String acoustic guitar played by the bassist.
Ricky Wagner came up with some good background sound ideas, like wind, guns, and stuff and
to round things up we have shortened it a bit in the process.
2. Written In Blood:
Speedmetal in your face right from the start! Imagine the nice guy from next door with a
nice smile snaps! You better run, ´cause you won’t see it coming. This is more or less what
Philip is saying in this one. Check out our new video we mostly shot in his garden! We also
dropped some background videos on this one at our socials!
What I might add here is that this is a perfect example of Outburst and the way we do
things. We only write music we have fun playing. I remember talking to Nico about the
breakdown in it and imitating riffs we talked about in Peter Griffin's famous laugh-style
(„hehehe“).
3. Assaulter:
Assaulter mostly grew out of Philips pencil. After we had the demo recordings done and big
brothers Ricky and Ättt watched us doing our thing with it they joined our think tank and
gave it great inspiration. We have been friends since our early teen years, so we kind of think in similar
spaces. The new perspective enriched the song through minor changes like a different
tempo or picking style in some parts.
4. Warfare:
This is a beautiful heavy and speedy thrash song Nico came up with! The classic story of having
an earworm of some melody and then trying to get it out somehow. We forged it with heated
rage in our rehearsal room through many beers, Philip and I added some lyrics….what can I
say? War is omnipresent these days. Slowly turning everything it touches to dust.
5. Devouring The Masses:
Worthy of being the title track! Unexpected twists and changes combined with thunderbolts
of riffs! Catchy, fast, and full of anger! That is what you can expect from us on stage! Bulldozing
riffs that devour you whole! Tjorre is a beast drumming this one! Nikolay (REZET) asked us if
it would be cool if he would add a guest solo to it and we never said yes so fast before! Man,
he delivered! Like, holy moly! Thanks again, man!
6. Greed:
The most punk song on the album! - Straight forward, no compromise!
the personified greed that does not indulge and only envies. It’s a song that invites you to
mosh and to have fun doing it! No major surprises here, just thrashing fun!
7. Push The Button:
Banger!
I love the dynamic oriental touch in it, I love the tempo, I love the hook and the verse riff
makes so damn much fun to play! It’s like a thrashing stampede relentlessly pushing its way!
It’s one of those hooks that catches you off guard and it doesn‘t bother leaving you for a
while! The lyrics are about the guy who has the burden of pressing the „red button“ - the point
of return. The one who actually has to press it and „live“ with it afterward. We asked
ourselves: „What could go through your mind in this position?“, and it always ended in
madness. ´Cause that´s what war is. Absolute power-tripping madness.
8. Streams Of Death:
Inspired by William James' concept of the "stream of consiousness“ this song's theme
adepts it into an unregulated sequence of deaths. Complete and utter senselessness. Streams
are very driving, a classic head nicker! Also, it´s very fun to play as well.
9. Next To Die:
NTD was mainly arranged and concepted by Nico. The sound is a quite unique fusion of heavy
and thrash elements, mixed with some dissonances and unexpected twists. At the same tim,e
you can bang your head and mosh to it, too! NTD is one of our older songs that grew with us
and became perfected in the studio process together with Ricky and Ättt. For example, there
is a short clean part before the solo that Nico just came up with during the demo recordings with Ricky!
10. Count Your Blesings:
Man, CYB stands for itself. It´s packed with melodies and speed! A few years ago it started as a
9 minutes long prog-metal song, but not long after that we forged this one down to a pure 3
and a half minutes long thrashing speed monster!
As the final son,g CYB fits the gap of our virtuosity in songwriting. The fade-out at the end of
it suggests that it must continue!
