Behind The Artworks: Asasara - 777 (2024)
It's inspired by a few things. Greek orthodox iconography, the Minoan snake goddess, Griselda records style album artwork (Flygod, Don't Get Scared Now etc). Stuff I think is cool and eye-catching. The sides feature a Kabbalistic image of the Flaming Sword, which the album takes its name from (777). To create the cover itself, I basically scoured old religious books and the internet, and took some old images, altered them as need be and made a digital collage of sorts. For example - the saint is from one image. The snake is from a totally different piece. The hand is from another saint but I digitally blended it together. I removed the head and face, added the blood from a different old painting, etc.
Doing that myself was cool, but I'm not really a visual artist. I just lucked out with this cover coming out as good as it did. It seems people really like it. Everything in this project is DIY, but I would love to continue to work with more artists in the future. For the last EP, I worked with Squatdeadface who is an absolute legend in the underground hiphop world. Hopefully in the future I can continue to collaborate with artists on that level for future releases.
