Interviews: Hexjakt
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Atmospheric Doom Metal band Hexjakt from Sweden. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Was it planned, or did it
just happen organically?
Häxjakt in Swedish means “Witch Hunt” but we made the spelling more
international and we thought it sounded, looked cool as a logo and fit
the theme of the songs and genre we’re playing.
2. Why did you choose to play this genre?
As a guitarist, I’ve played in sludge/doomy bands throughout the years
and it’s a genre that is heavy but also starting to be a bit more broad
in its fanbase. Al,so the slower tempos make for some really heavy songs.
3. Did you know each other before forming the band?
I had some music written that I wanted to release out in the world. So
I met the drummer Dan in my tattoo studio, he’s a customer of mine. We
hit if off and started jamming and not long after I bought some music
equipment on facebook marketplace from Toni, bas. And as to my surprise
he was looking for someone to play with. That’s how Hexjakt came about.
Random social interactions.
4. What is each band member's favorite band?
We come from similar backgrounds in music but a few minor differences. It’s rooted in rock and metal. It’s hard to have favourites because
there’s so many.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
It could be anything. A phrase, a picture, a single word or even just
a melody in your head. We’ve been playing music all our lives basically
so we have a lot of ideas lying around and we inspire each other by
showing our ideas in the rehearsal. So even if we write stuff
independently we always finalise it as a collective effort.
6. Where was your last gig?
We are having our first gig in February with our buddies in the band
10.000 Years in Katrineholm, Sweden.
7. Where would you like to perform in the future?
Anywhere really. Stoked to come out and play as much as we can.
8. Which artist or band would you like to collaborate with?
There are a lot of great bands, venues and people in the underground
scene so we’re open for anything really. As long as it feels good from
both ends.
10. Have any of you ever experienced stage fright? Do you have any tips for
beginners on overcoming it?
Sometimes but if you come prepared it gets easier. And to be honest
being older makes you more grounded and down to earth I guess. I was
more nervous as a teenager or in the early twenties than now. Now it’s
more about having fun and when you have that mindset you get more stoked
than nervous.
11. Which bands have influenced you the most?
In this project I would say Electric Wizard. But bands like Yob and
Sleep are up there as well.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
We started as a band last summer so we haven’t really encountered
anything that specific. Boring answer but it’s the truth.
13. What do you think of your fans?
We’ve been getting really positive feedback on our songs from
different blogs and reviewers, and also from friends and people in the
scene. And that’s really awesome. We’re just people like anyone else so
we’re just happy that folks like our songs as much as we do.
14. What do you think of our site?
It’s a cool concept to deep dive in the creative aspects of bands.
Keep it up!
15. Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Please follow us on our social media’s and thanks for this interview.
