Interviews: Seven Kingdoms
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Power Metal band Seven Kingdoms from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?
S: The name was pitched by the original singer of Seven Kingdoms, Bryan Edwards. He wanted to do an entire concept-style album solely dedicated to the storyline of the books of Game Of Thrones. This was done prior to the HBO series.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
S: The music was composed by Camden and Bryan in the vain of their influences of Iced Earth and Blind Guardian. Shortly after Keith and Kevin would join adding their punk and power metal talents. At the time it was their favorite genre of music and they wanted to do it for fun. Once Bryan left I became the new Vocalist shortly after. Personally, I just wanted to sing and had no prior experience in any of these genres. I do personally like to compare Power Metal to Blue Grass, because that’s what I had more experience with at the time. It was the same to me, just a little more heavy and there were more insane vocal ranges incorporated.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
S: Camden and Bryan go back all the way to school and his first band TSV (This Solemn Vow). Camden met Keith and Kevin at a Dragon Force show where they approached him asking if he was a singer. They were looking for a vocalist for their band at the time. Camden and I went to High School together but didn’t really talk until I worked at the Local Pizza Joint in downtown DeLand called Toms Pizza. He had come in to hang up the poster for his first show with his band called Seven Kingdoms.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
S: oh man, that’s such a hard question to answer. We like so many bands and have been lucky enough to tour with most of them. For us we have a tendency to like bands for more than the music they play, we enjoy the personalities that go along with the music. So at the moment, I know Camden's favorite bands are 100% without a doubt Striker, Meshuggah, and Hypocrisy. Keith Loves Halloween and NOFX, though there are some others that always sneak in but those happen to be his personal faves. Kevin has always loved Blind Guardian and he is really into Kublai Khan. He loves to lift weights listening to them. I have a tendency to listen to music that’s all over the place. I’m super into Chill Step as my daily listen, I love Aurora her personality is absolutely adorable and her voice is amazing. lately, I haven’t been listening to much metal, I've been jamming with a lot of instrumental music, but I definitely jam all the tunes from all my past tour mates on the reg. I have a tendency to enjoy listening to all the bands I’ve toured with more than any other bands.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
S: Life first and foremost. Emotions have a way of inspiring the sound of the notes and then sometimes it’s a random melody that shapes an entire song. Rarely do we pull inspiration from books or Movies now. Every once in a while, a dream will inspire lyrics, or even this past EP The Square came from a dream I had. It had many layers and will find its way through the upcoming album.
6. Where was your last gig?
S: By the time this goes out, it will be 70000K Tons of Metal Cruise, the most fun and chaotic experience we have ever had. It will be our second time playing this cruise
7. Where would you like to act?
S: I personally would like to act or be featured on a Gordon Ramsey episode learning to cook his famous burger or “Is it cake.”
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
S: I have always wanted to sing with Brittany Slayes, Tom England, and my Producer and good friend Jim Morris. That man has pipes that have gone unrecognized but he is the reason so many bands sound the way they do.
9. Whom not?
S: it’s not worth mentioning
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
S: All of us have at one point, but I actually get in quite a bit. Sometimes I’ll be fine and then out of nowhere I will randomly experience it very intensely. You would think it would be big shows or festivals but it normally happens when I’m sick.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
S: Collectively over time it has been Iced Earth, Blind Guardian, Helloween, Stratovarius, Evergray, Meshuggah, Within Temptation, Night Wish, Every Karaoke song I’ve ever sang.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
S: To take a picture with my burger shoes in their mouth, ugh, those shoes have been on so many floors. I change burgers every tour but still, gross
13. What do you think of your fans?
S: They are some of the most supportive people I have ever met. They are some of the best people I have had the honor to meet as fans have become some of my favorite people. I’m very awkward and have a tendency to avoid people because of it, but sometimes all over the world you meet your fellow weirdoes and click. I’m thankful for their unwavering support. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am.
14. What do you think of our site?
S: Very interesting, this was my introduction to your site. Thank you for wanting to feature us.
15. Something to add?
S: Stay positive even when things are at their worst. Things will always get better in time. Everything will be ok, and if it’s not, Everything WILL be ok.
