Track By Tracks: Abandon Alien - Disturbing The Neighbors (2025)
1. Disturbing The Neighbors Breakdown:
Disturbing The Neighbors is an interesting album. We decided to really lean into the lofi D.I.Y. approach on this one. The majority of the album was recorded live in a second-floor apartment with an electric drum set, and our instruments plugged right into a portastudio which is why it's called Disturbing The Neighbors. Even the artwork is very lofi. It's basically a picture I took of outside my window through the blinds and inverted the colors and it almost looks like you are looking in at something through a window but you can't quite tell what is going on inside.
2. Adore:
The story of Adore is a pretty simple one. The main tale of the song is about a desperate abused person willing to do whatever it takes to satisfy their love.
Willing to do their bidding while hating them for not recognizing the sacrifices you are making to please them. It's a familiar tale in the world of relationships.
The twist with Adore is that it is not a person I'm so willing to be so abused by but the music industry. It's me trying so hard and so desperately to get noticed.
It's me constantly on the outside looking in like a stalker in the bushes hating what it is doing to me but simply not being able to stop.
3. Silence:
Silence is a song about questioning the world of religion. We all have that day when we need to ask why.
No matter what religion we are raised in there comes a time when you hit a crossroad in faith. We look up to the sky and ask Where are you?
And when the response is silence you know where you stand.
4. Better Version:
Better Version is a song about the people in your life holding you down. The people that you wish could be the best versions of themselves but always seem to fall short.
They will sabotage themselves without realizing they are sabotaging you as well. The only way to break away from that circle of self-destruction is to walk away.
5. Flake:
Flake is a funny song for me. It was written as an experiment to see if I could write a song without any real meaning.
I was listening to a lot of Nirvana and S.T.P. at the time and I noticed that the words didn't really tell cohesive stories.
So I was trying to mimic that type of style but what came out was probably even more revealing about my personality than I wanted.
I have always had a bit of a love-hate relationship with that song.
6. Not Done:
Not Done is an optimistic song a rarity in our catalogue. It's a song about facing adversity head-on and not giving up.
The doubting voice in your head will always try to keep you from getting out of bed in the morning but we have to keep fighting that voice and never let them win the war.
And the war is never done.
7. Another Scar:
Another Scar is a song about dealing with never-ending disappointment. After a while, you just kind of get used to it.
A callused world will leave you callused. When you expect to eat shit you won't be affected by it anymore.
8. Can't Breathe:
Can't Breathe is a very deep and personal song. It's a song written at a time in my life when I was dealing with incredible loss and the transition of going forward.
You don't want to go forward but you don't have a choice. No matter how much you want to go back to how things were you can't and here you are having to face it.
This song forced itself on me to the point I felt a deep hollow feeling in the pit of my stomach until I sat down and wrote these words on a page and once it was finished the feeling went away.
9. Control:
Control was a rare song that started with the main riff. I usually write lyrics first. I have what I want to say and then the music comes after. With control, it was the opposite.
Once the lyrics came it became a story of not wanting to be the one always in charge. Feeling like you have to be the responsible one all the time. That feeling like you are about to crawl out of your own skin.
The ones who are always in control of themselves will one day break and it will make up for the times they were with a vengeance.
10. Familiar Scenes:
Familiar Scenes is very much a song about falling out of love with a person. Once the rose-colored glasses come off and you see the situation you're in.
Suddenly you see there isn't anything special about them and all the excuses you made for their flaws are gone and it's time to move on from them.
11. Blissful Armageddon:
Blissful Armageddon is at its roots a love song. It's having that person with you while the world burns to the ground. No matter what is going on around you it's all fun with the right person next to you.
While Familiar Scenes is about taking the roses colored glasses off Blissful Armageddon is very much about putting them on. No matter what chaos is around us we can skip and dance our way through it.
