Behind The Artworks: CAGES - BETTER MISTAKES (2025)

The album art of BETTER MISTAKES came from me, the vocalist of CAGES. I do all our artworks myself (https://schwarzerrand.wordpress.com). To me, the visual aspect is very important when it comes to records, merch, and so on. With every artwork I mainly try to convey the vibe I'm getting off of the songs and underline that with more or less consistent aesthetics. So for CAGES I mostly work with analog photographs I took and combine them with other elements, like e.g. textured surfaces or painted/drawn elements. In my opinion, this grainy flock of birds on the record's cover gets the atmosphere of CAGES' songs across perfectly. Focusing on birds for all album art of BETTER MISTAKES is also a bow to 90s/2000s emo/screamo bands, which all members of CAGES love and draw a lot of their inspirations from, take e.g. Aussitôt Mort or Funeral Diner.

Usually all our releases also get a limited preorder-edition housed in an additional sleeve, hand-made by myself with additional artwork. Each preorder-copy of BETTER MISTAKES features a unique watercolored background with another bird-artwork printed on top.
