Behind The Scenes: Hannah Duckworth - Ghost (Official Video)
Seattle-based alternative rock artist Hannah Duckworth is bringing early 2000s nostalgia back with her latest single, Ghost—a song that channels the infectious energy of Michelle Branch with a punch of pop-punk angst. But beyond its shimmering hooks and raw emotion, Ghost also comes with an ambitious, self-produced music video that Duckworth pulled together in just one week.
“Ghost is the product of one of my first songwriting sessions in LA,” Duckworth shares. “Nervous, I arrived at the studio early to anxiously scribble ideas in my notebook before meeting Mike Pepe (Producer). I wanted to channel an early Michelle Branch feel—sweet pop meets angst and infectious 2000s energy. I came up with the chorus melody two minutes before walking into the room. We wrote and produced the song in four hours. It’s my favorite off the upcoming EP written with Mike.”
The music video, co-written by Duckworth and her bandmate and partner, Dillon Vincent, embodies that same blend of haunting energy and early 2000s rock inspiration. Directed by Seattle videographer Sarah Jane Yun, with Ryan Vanucci and Brent Driscoll joining as Directors of Photography, the video leans into the theatrical aesthetics of bands like My Chemical Romance and Taking Back Sunday.
“I wanted something haunting but fun and full of energy,” Duckworth explains. “I spent months searching for the perfect house setting and kept coming up short. Then, just a week before our target shoot date, I found this incredible restored mansion from 1902 in Capitol Hill, Seattle. I booked it six days before the video shoot and scrambled to assemble a full production team.”
With only a videographer confirmed at first, Duckworth built out her crew in record time—adding a lighting team, camera operators, PAs, a director, and a makeup artist within three days. Then, in a single 12-hour shoot, they brought Ghost to life.
“The hardest part was getting everything together on a one-week timeline—literally everything,” she says. “Location, crew, costumes, extras—you name it. Fitting everything into 12 hours was tough, and we had to cut some ad-lib scenes throughout the day, but we made it work.”
Despite the whirlwind process, Ghost is a testament to Duckworth’s DIY ethos and creative vision. “This is only my third music video, but one I hope will reach many viewers and connect with them on a nostalgic, fun pop-punk level. I’m incredibly proud of what we accomplished.”
With its high-energy, throwback spirit and a visually stunning video, Ghost is poised to be one of Duckworth’s most exciting releases yet.
