Behind The Scenes: Marble Ghosts - Eat The Rich (Official Video)

Dylan: Adam Hansen, the band's guitar player, used a silhouette technique to superimpose hundreds of images to create the 'Eat the Rich' video. This technique involves taking an image and then changing the contrast, lighting, and color so that it becomes a shadow. This gives the video a grim apocalyptic feel. Adam used the lyrics and vocalist and lyricist Dylan Gunnell's ideas to create the 4+ minute epic which reflects the reality for many today who are struggling with sky-high food and housing prices while the richest among us line their pockets with the spoils of the overworked and underpaid.

The video merges both reflections of the present day with an alternate reality, a hell on earth where a zombie plague has wiped out humanity except for the richest. The world's richest men and women board a ship to take them to Mars, but it malfunctions, leaving them at the mercy of the blood-thirsty monsters that used to be their employees.

 

Adam used zombies to keep the video more tongue-in-cheek and entertaining, but it still reflects a harsh reality for many. Living with an abuser to avoid being homeless, choosing to buy medication over food, sleeping in a car, being told to reproduce without any support for their children- all of these are truths that millions live every day, while the rich continue to exploit their workers and undermine efforts to unionize, break up monopolies or bring in additional protections through regulations. We are entering a new gilded age, but the only way to escape it is to 'Eat the Rich'.
