Behind The Tracks: Light This Night - Skin (Single) (2025)

"Skin" is a song that delves into inner conflict, the struggle with oneself, and the search for balance between what we desire and what we try to escape from. Drawing inspiration from works like Twin Peaks and Alan Wake, the lyrics capture the tension between light and darkness, between the yearning for freedom and the fear of facing one's true self.

Born from the minds of Lorenzo and Nick, Skin went through a long production process, with meticulous attention to every sonic detail. Ricky and Chiara then enriched the track with their rhythmic contributions. The song was mixed and mastered by Theorem Studio, while the music video, directed by Luca Moretti, translates the song’s atmosphere into evocative and meaningful imagery, further enhanced by the presence of actor Andy Nloga. Released under Warmusic, the single solidifies the band's sonic identity and its message.

From a musical standpoint, Skin is a modern track that blends elements from various contemporary influences. The powerful guitars draw from the new wave of metal, creating an energetic and impactful sound. The use of synthesizers and electronic elements is a defining characteristic of the band, contributing to an intense and immersive atmosphere. The track also stands out for its unique fusion of rhythms that, at times, verge on hip-hop, intertwined with alternative sounds, resulting in a fresh and engaging sonic dynamic.

The song’s lyrics pay homage to works like Twin Peaks and Alan Wake, which explore themes of inner struggle, the desire for freedom, and emotional conflict with unique intensity. The track draws inspiration from the way these works delve into the darkness of the human soul, represented by the looming threat that emerges from nowhere—akin to Cooper’s doppelgänger in Twin Peaks or Mr. Scratch in Alan Wake, an entity that, despite being identical to the protagonist in every way, is his dark antithesis.

The imagery of "under my skin" symbolizes emotions or thoughts that are difficult to confront, such as pain or fear, rising to the surface. The phrase "let your soul be craved" conveys the struggle of facing these feelings but also the realization that one cannot escape their inner world—learning instead to desire oneself and one’s own salvation from within. In essence, the lyrics reflect the meaning of a line from Alan Wake: "Beyond the shadows you settle for, there's a miracle illuminated," reinterpreted in this song as the challenge of confronting what is hidden within us—what influences our choices and behaviors.

Despite the pain, we cannot avoid facing it, for only by moving beyond the unknown can we truly find ourselves. Life is a continuous act of faith, and there is no better way to live.
