Behind The Tracks: OVERHAUL - Whoop It Up (Single) (2025)

In my songwriting, I always write the music first and whatever emotion it brings up is generally the route the song takes. Whoop it Up didn’t happen that way. I actually struggled to get anything lyrically but knew the music was super strong and the lyrics had to be equally as strong.

 

I am a very religious man and I spent time in adoration in Our Lady of Perpetual Succour here in Millport, Isle of Cumbrae, Scotland. And I felt my concentration wasn’t focused and my mind wondered a bit but with minutes the idea hit me and out poured the lyric for Whoop It Up.

 

It’s a song about life being hard, but you gotta keep on going. In the darkest times, life is harder and temptations are ever present, though at the time temptation may look, sound and feel good/exciting/right, in the light of day we can all what temptation is. The most important lesson is no matter how hard life is, God loves us. He wants us to have fun, he wants us to Whoop It Up but we must keep going and keep the end goal , heaven, firmly in focus where we can all eternally Whoop It Up.
