Behind The Tracks: Sharper Side - Flat Out (Single) (2025)

Last year, I got home from the Slam Dunk festival around midnight and had to wake up for work a few hours later at 4am. I wanted to write a track to capture that feeling of burning the candle at both ends; holding down a job whilst also pushing my band as hard as I can, a feeling well-known to those in the industry!

After I took the song and the idea to the rest of the band we agreed to get it down on tape and record it for this year’s EP. We went through our usual formula of adding some double kick here, gang vocals there, plus the obligatory half-time breakdown (how can you musically convey your emotions without one?!) but also decided to play a little differently and build up the bridge hook “my body’s paying these bills” from atmospheric, clean guitar into a full-band wall-of-noise crescendo that links into the songs final chorus.

Flat Out is basically the sound of the struggle to balance two lives at once, it's fast, it's hectic, and sometimes heavy - but man, it's a LOT of fun.
