Interviews: Abel Blood

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Psychedelic Doom Metal band Abel Blood from the USA. Check out this band and follow them on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, did you plan it or come out like that?

The name comes from a cemetery in the town we grew up in. It’s considered one of the most haunted in all of New England. There is a grave stone there of the man Abel Blood and sometimes at night the finger that is pointing up on his gravestone has been seen pointing down.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

It’s not really a choice for me, this is the music that my heart puts out at the moment. I don’t mean to sound deep by saying that, but I really don’t think the songs are mine to start with. They just show up.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

I (Adam) knew both Jimmy and Malcolm prior to Abel Blood. Jimmy and I started the band with our dear friend Ben. When Ben had to part ways with us, Malcolm came in to fill the void. We miss Ben dearly as a member and he remains a huge supporter of ours to this day. Malcolm brings such stage presence and creativity to this band. I’m still shocked and grateful he joined up with us.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Malcolm: That’s a tough one, I’d have to say my top three are Motorhead, T-Rex and The Smiths.

Jimmy: Black Sabbath

Adam: I’d have to say Clutch or All Them Witches.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I (Adam) typically have a moment in time that I want to describe. Usually just a short story I’ve made up. The vibe of the story will usually dictate the vibe of the riffs I’ll write.

6. Where was your last gig?

O’Brien’s Pub in Boston, Mass. We jammed with a couple fantastic bands, Benthic Realm and King Bastard. Both bands have enormous sounds, definitely take a listen to them.

7. Where would you like to act?

There honestly isn’t a stage we don’t want to perform on, but Wacken comes to mind, any of the Desertfests.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We have had the honor to work with so many original bands over the years, Wrought Iron Hex, Dust Prophet, WitchTrot, and Vigil to name just a few, and we love featuring with all of them. When it comes to a touring band, I think we all agree that Slift would be at the top of the list.

9. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Of course! It’s part of being human. Over time it does get much easier though. I remember the first Abel Blood show, I was so nervous I didn’t think my hands would work, but I got a glass of water and reminded myself of all the hard work we had put into this, and that we were getting to do something we had dreamed of doing for a long time. I helped enough to get me through that first song, then it was all adrenaline after that. LOL

10. What bands have inspired you the most?

Jimmy: For me that would be Only Living Witness, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Honkeyball

Malcolm: Definitely Mark Bolan, Robin Trower, Malcolm Young, Joe Hoare, David Gilmour, Isaiah Mitchell.

Adam: Ben McLeod from All Them Witches is a huge influence. I took one guitar lesson from him during the pandemic and it changed my approach completely.

11. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Our autographs. That might sound silly, but honestly it’s weird to think that anyone would want that from us. We are grateful that there are people out there that enjoy what we make. It gives me goosebumps to think about it.

12. What do you think of your fans?

We love them and are forever thankful for them!

13. What do you think of our site?

It’s amazing! So much information that you can’t get anywhere else!

14. Something to add?

We would be honored if you checked out our album Arrival of the Waves, we are so excited that Argonauta records has decided to pick it up for its physical release on CD later this spring. It will be available through Argonauta records and through us so be sure to grab a copy once it’s been released!

Thanks so much for talking with us!!!!
