Interviews: Abolishment Of Flesh

On this new occasion, we had the chance to interview the Brutal Death Metal/Black Metal/Death Metal band Abolishment Of Flesh from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, did you plan it or come out just like that?

Originally, we were just Abolishment but a couple of years after I formed the band, I decided to add “Of Flesh”. To me, it adds more substance to the meaning and kind of creates a theme for the band and the content in the lyrics. Basically, I believe we are flesh but we also have a spirit inside. The flesh is what causes us to do evil and our pure spirit is always struggling with the flesh.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I am a huge fan of music so I listen to pretty much anything, but I think I chose extreme metal music because of the raw emotions I would feel when I listened to it. It’s aggressive, pissed off, sometimes sad.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Well, today’s lineup is made up of musicians I met throughout the first 6 years of the band. Izaak was a local musician and co-hosted a college radio metal show. Had us on there a couple of times and I would also see him at most of the local metal shows. Everyone else that has played with AOF, I met while being on tour or fests.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

I feel comfortable enough to speak for Izaak and say that he is one of the biggest Type-O-Negative fans I’ve ever met, lol! For me, Death, Slayer, Suffocation.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Life in general! I watch the news, read about history. Sometimes sit back and watch the world happen in front of you.

6. Where was your last gig?

I believe our last show was in Corpus Christi last year on tour with The Summoners Circle.

7. Where would you like to act?

Not sure I understand this question. So, I will answer as if the question is, “ Where would you like to perform?” I wanna perform at as many places as possible, but some of the bigger fests like Wacken, Maryland Death Fest, Milwaukee Metal Fest.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Not sure I understand this question either. So, I will answer as if the question is, “Whom would you like to perform with?” It’s always fun to perform with bands we’ve looked up to. It’s an even bigger deal if they actually come out to catch your performance!

9. Whom not?

Man, we’ll jam with anybody as long as it makes sense and we get treated right.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Absolutely! Honestly, I’ve been performing live for over 30 years, and I still get nervous. Before getting on stage, I begin to cough a lot to the point of almost puking! As soon as we hit that first note, it all goes away. The only way to help that is to find your own way to relax and calm your breathing. I’ve found that warming up backstage works great!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Death, Slayer, Metallica, Napalm Death, Sepultura and Suffocation

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We had a fan ask for an autograph on his hat and unfortunately, we didn’t have a Sharpie, so he said just spit on it! He was very happy, too!

13. What do you think of your fans?

Our fans are what make us want to keep going! I can write and record music all day long, but if no one listens, then there is no value or meaning. Thank you for listening!

14. What do you think of our site?

I dig it! We are happy to contribute to anything that supports and promotes metal and new music and artists!

15. Something to add?

Yeah, just check out our music, share it, promote it, and we’ll see you out on the road!
