Interviews About Albums: Gore Force 5 - Tails From The Deep (2025)
In this new interview, we sat down with the Belgian Death Metal band Gore Force 5 to ask questions about their album, "Tails From The Deep".
1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?
This EP is really an appetizer for the next full and one that comes with 3 reasons:
- It allowed us to add one new song 'Jacques: The Fornication Crustacean' on top of Nemo from the 3rd and Dory from the 4th albums and finish off what we call the Fish Trilogy in one nice release. Both Nemo and Dory were completely re-recorded and mixed for this one.
-A new release means new artwork, which means new merch that's something I personally love to do (Dominique), everything from buttons and fake tattoos to hats, audio cassettes, and hoodies.
-And most importantly, we do as much as we can ourselves, meaning recording and mixing are learning processes. As happy as we were with the 4th album we used this EP as a "sound study" to figure out what the next full album is going to sound like. If you put 'At Full Force' and 'Tails from The Deep' back to back, you'll notice a fuller, more raw, low-end sound, which is the sound direction we want to go for in the future.
2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?
'Tails From The Deep' is just a little play on words. TAILS because we've used pigs in all our artwork through the years (notice the angler fish/pig hybrid in the artwork), and FROM THE DEEP cause all songs are fish related.
3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?
All our music is a band effort. Jeroen and I write the guitar tracks, Jan adds on drums during rehearsals, and then Senne does the vocal work. We keep refining a song till we think it's good enough, and if it doesn't work, we throw it out and start again.
4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?
Definitely 'Jacques: the Fornication Crustacean'
5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what it is?
Zero, none, nope. Nothing we do has a deeper meaning, we just want to play our own slightly grind,y funny version of death metal.
6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?
Song: Jacques at the 02:20 mark "FILTHY..ABSOLUTELY FILTHY". Describes the whole thing nicely, I think.
7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?
A certain popular animation, "fishy" children's movie, has been the inspiration for the artwork and the samples. Pretty sure you know which one.
8. Something to add?
We try to do everything ourselves including the recording and mixing but the EP wouldn't have sounded this good if it hadn't been for the help of Sasha Blokland and the mastering skills of Sven Janssens (Red Left Hand Studio) and lets not forget Hanne Dewachter for the lovely artwork (she also did the 3rd and 4th albums)
