Interviews About Albums: Plasmajet - Solastalgia (2025)

In this new interview, we sat down with the German Stoner Metal band Plasmajet to ask questions about their album, "Solastalgia".

1. What can you say about Solastalgia?

Solastalgia means a lot to us. Since we shrunk to just 2 people during the pandemic, it wasn't clear whether Plasmajet would even continue at all. We were very lucky to find 2 comrades in John and Jannik, with whom we get on really well both personally and musically. To now be able to release an album on which you can hear the influences of each of us and which we also got a place with on Argonauta Records is just amazing.

2. What is the meaning of the album name?

Solastalgia is a term coined by the philosopher Glenn Albrecht in 2005. The word is a combination of the Latin word sōlācium - which means consolation - and the Greek word "algia" for pain or suffering. The term stands for a burdening feeling of loss that is triggered by the change or destruction of one's own home or living space. Climate change, war, fanaticism or simply the greed and ruthlessness of the upper elite can trigger this feeling. A very large part of humanity is affected by it, and the future does not look particularly rosy.

3. Which one is the composer of Solastalgia?

I wrote the lyrics, the music comes from all of us.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

Of course I like all the songs on the album. But Deceptive Security is actually one of my favorites, and maybe Show me how to fly.

5. Is there a special message in Solastalgia? If there is what it is?

I don't know if message is the right word. Ultimately, it's about impressions and feelings that arise from the chaos that surrounds us. The fact that they are not exactly positive is simply due to the situation. The last song describes a way out in the form of an escape through the interstellar haze into the stoner rock galaxy. This of course, with a wink.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

Oh, then let's take the text from Interstellar Haze. At least it has something peaceful about it, haha :-)

Now all is said and done
I'm all alone
I breathe deep into my lungs
and just let it go
And I see this light
As I flee into the night
into the space

Every single breath I take
intenses my speed
Fast as light across the space
to the music I need
Left behind all the fights
Just enjoy the ride
through this haze
This interstellar haze

Soon I'll reach my goal
It's all that I prayed for
This huge deep black hole
Will open the door

Now there's no turning back
Event horizon's sucked me
Everything turns black
Enter Stonerrock-Galaxy
Now it's the time
I'm the next in line
Feel the embrace
of interstellar haze

Now I've reached my goal
It's all that I prayed for
This huge deep black hole
Has opened the door
To the world I sought for

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank specially?

Ultimately, we are inspired by the madness around us. Greed, partly unbridled capitalism, environmental destruction, egoism, warmongering and so on. The list goes on forever. Music is an escape, at least an escape for the moment.

We would like to thank everyone who has accompanied us so far and who has constantly encouraged us to continue. I would especially like to thank my wife. I don't think it's always easy to live with a music fanatic.

8. Something to add?

We can't change the world, but everyone can do their part. We should all question our actions and be especially careful not to step on those who are lower down. Just be nice to each other. Oh, and question consumption.
