Interviews: Around 7

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Alternative Punk Rock band, Around 7 from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?

We’d gone through several band names in the early days and kept finding out they were taken by other bands. Our guitarist at the time told Lachlan that he would be at our rehearsal “around 7” and it ended up sticking.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

When we formed, we hadn’t set out to play any specific style of music, although we knew it would be rock in some form. We all had different influences and playing styles so we’d just write songs together that we thought sounded good. It’s still the same today which is why each song varies slightly in genre.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Lachlan and Ryan had known each other since high school and met about a year before Around 7 was formed. They both knew Chris through the Dundee music scene

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Lachlan – Iron Maiden

Ryan – Green Day

Chris – Biffy Clyro

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Usually, the songs come from experiences we have been through, but sometimes it’s just a guitar or bass riff that we’ll come up with, take it to a rehearsal, and build the rest of the track around it.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last show was at Roots, Dundee.

7. Where would you like to act?

There are so many places that we would love to play but Download Festival (Donington Park) would be very close to the top of the list.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

There are so many artists that we would love to feature that the list could go on endlessly!

9. Whom not?

It’s always good to keep doors open. You never know what collaboration ideas we will have in the future so never say never to anyone.

10. Have any of you suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Lachlan still gets nervous before every show. He takes 5 minutes alone before every show to calm down and get in the zone. Everyone who suffers from stage fright will have their own way of dealing with it. You just need to find what yours is and remember that once you’re on the stage, you’ll be perfectly fine.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

We each have our own musical inspirations but as a band, probably Green Day and Sum 41.

12. What’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Signing beer mats was a strange one... but probably JPEGs of some of our merch designs for them to get tattoos of.

13. What do you think of your fans?

It’s a cop-out answer as every band says the same thing, but we genuinely have some of the best fans. The support they have given us over the years has been phenomenal.

14. What do you think of our site?

It’s a great platform to promote bands and discover new artists through.

15. Something to add?

Our new single, Secrets, is out on all major streaming platforms on 11/3/25 but if you want to check it out live, our Secrets Weekend Tour is running from 13th -15th March in Edinburgh, Berwick, and Newcastle! It will be great to play the new track live for the first time and we can’t wait to see everyone there!
