Interviews: RawMoor

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Symphonic Blackened Death Metal band RawMoor from Finland. Check out this amazing band!

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Moordrawn: The band name stems from my origin, sort of. It was indeed meticulously planned, although it formed in my mind (and on paper) quite soon. There is not much room for change in things I aim to create as I love details and references and that sort of stuff. So the band name also has a reference hidden in it.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Moordrawn: This genre comes naturally to me when writing this style of music. I express myself differently with different instruments, and a lot of the creation process takes place in my head. As I am accustomed to writing everything alone, I started working on songs purely out of will to create. Of course, if you want to look for a root, I fell in love with melodic black metal (as I view the genre) in my teens listening to bands like Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth and Agathodaimon to name the first few. The emotive power those bands were able to express through their music was simply breathtaking, and I kind of challenged myself to see if I could match them. I became fascinated with the philosophy behind the lyrical themes as well as the spiritual aspects present in many bands of the genre.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Moordrawn: We've known each other for a long time, and played in two bands together.

Brim: We've known each other for few decades now, music has always been a bond between us.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Moordrawn: I have to say, for this genre, Dimmu Borgir. It has been stapled longest on my playlists for over 20 years.

Brim: I like to hear different kinds of genres in metal, so there's lots of bands what I like to listen. But if I'd had to pick one, it would be Behemoth. Like their raw style and attitude.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Moordrawn: I tend to center my writing process around a concept rather than collect songs with unrelated themes. I find a subject I want to dwell on, and write an album around that. Inspiration feels endless, but the mood to channel it right needs it's own time.

Brim: Mostly the lyrics are made of our own opinions of things, what are wrong in the world as we know it. For example politics, religion, the power of money and so on...

6. Where was your last gig?

Moordrawn: RawMoor is currently not a live act, so we haven't done any gigs.

7. Where would you like to act?

Moordrawn: A late night gig in some underground open air festival.

Brim: Same thing.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Moordrawn: I'd love for us to open for Agathodaimon!

Brim: I have no specific band in mind, but a band from same kind of genre would be good.

9. Whom not?

Moordrawn & Brim: No restrictions here, I guess. We all play our own music and that's the way of the world.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Moordrawn: Sure. It's like jumping in cold water. Just do it, and try not to hit the rocks. Everyone hits the bottom some time. Reflect on that, and assure yourself it can't go bad every time. Learn from your own experience.

Brim: Yes, in the past. And i'm sure that everyone who has performed somehow has had some kind of stage fright sometime. I'd say, Do your own thing as good as you can and have a blast! It's your art. If someone does not like it, it's still not the end of the day.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Moordrawn: Dimmu Borgir, Agathodaimon, Cradle of Filth, Finntroll

Brim: Behemoth, Agathodaimon, Turmion Kätilöt

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Moordrawn: I was asked to do a physical print of this album!

Brim: Can't recall anything weird stuff.. Must be because i'm little bit weird myself...

13. What do you think of your fans?

Moordrawn: They are absolutely surprising! I have been overwhelmed with the positive feedback and encouragement we've received!

Brim: It's truly an honor to share our music with them!

14. What do you think of our site?

Moordrawn: I am astonished! You have absolutely huge coverage for so many niche subgenres all neatly and clearly ordered! Your site is just the place to introduce oneself to new styles of music as well as find new interesting bands!

Brim: I was also surprised about the amount of subgenres. Lots of stuff to explore and lots of content from bands that are not so big names yet. Very nice!!

15. Something to add?

Moordrawn: Thank you for featuring us on your site! Hopefully we get to release many albums and you deem us a worthy add on your site!

Brim: Thank you, for featuring us on your site and thanks for the interview!
