Track By Tracks: Serpentyne - Tales From The Dark (2025)

Describe the album as a whole

“Tales from the Dark” features Serpentyne’s collection of stories from the deepest recesses of a mind which is disturbed and yet longing for a brighter future. Multi-layered, fast-paced, dynamic, aggressive symphonic and orchestral/choral sounds form the core of this album. Opening track “Prophetess of Dreams” Introduces an evil fortune-teller who takes us “Into The Night” by way of her “Dangerous Mind”. It is here that we are confronted by “Ghosts of Times Past” and told to “Run for your Life” from this “Evil from Within”.

Eventually, in order to escape this nightmare, the “Dreamer” must conduct a “Seance” to break from this “March of Death” and reach “The Promised Land”. This is where we finally find peace and tranquility, amongst the calm oceans of the Promised Land.

Describe each song track by track

1. Prophetess of Dreams:

Hard-hitting and fast-paced introduction to the album which is also its lead single.
Its main guitar riff crashes in from the start like a barrage of speeding bullets.

A darker and fiercer Serpentyne sound.

The lyrics talk about the desperate need to find out about our destiny, the prophetess will unveil what lies behind our future, “Tell my fortune today, oracle of answers, will my luck fade away, or is it here to stay?”

2. Into the Night:

An epic, Maiden-esque, symphonic rock song with an orchestration that symbolises classic Serpentyne. Hypnotic choirs introduce the song, chanting “Into the Night!”

The feeling of drowning in the depths of a dark time and a strong determination to look for lighter days; Into the Night…when the dark invades our mind, and our eyes become so blind, can we see a world of a different kind?

3. Dangerous Mind:

Another fast paced effort, and the first song on the album to feature a heavily down-tuned, 8-string guitar riff. The middle-8 section gives way to some chugging goodness from the guitars and rhythm section. The lyrics depict someone living for danger and speed, not caring what others may say. If needed, they will put up a fight..beware of a Dangerous Mind!

4. Ghosts of Times Past:

Back to the symphonic element of the band. This song is multi-layered in luxurious orchestration, coupled with driving drum parts during the choruses. The lyrics tell us about the childish night-time dreams that are trapped inside us, when the ghosts of times past still come back to haunt us, and the fear still lasts.

5. Run for your Life:

This song tells the story of Red Riding Hood but with a modern twist. The chanting vocal of the song during the choruses and middle-8 sections are sure to become singalong favourites.

6. Evil from Within:

Evil from Within begins with a head-banging, downtuned guitar riff to appeal to any fans of the Nu-metal genre. The guitar solo is very Tom Morello inspired, making extensive use of the whammy pedal.

Hear the wolf howling in your heart, let the transformation begin… Feel the blood rushing through your veins, it's the evil from within!

7. Dreamer:

Dreamer is a song where the entire band helped shape the arrangement in the studio. A song that begins with a creepy introduction, alongside Maggie’s whispering voice, before an explosive bass guitar drives the song forward into the main, symphonic riff. This song again features a doomy, 8-string guitar breakdown in the middle section; accompanied by eerie choirs layered over the top of the mix.

The lyrics tell us about our nightmares, which are growing louder, and no light is showing… Dreaming, and looking for a healer, to come save us from this world of pain, to breathe again!

8. Seance:

Séance is a track that is sure to have the crowds chanting back the main vocal hook, sung powerfully between vocalists Maggiebeth and Nigel. After an ominous drum intro, the song explodes into a sing-a-long riff section, before a story unfolds about summoning mysterious spirits from another realm.

9. March of Death:

This track has a unique sound and rhythm to start with; a “haunted carousel” in music form, as the instruments swing the listener through a demented march around an evil mind. The song is partially inspired by the Mexican festival “Day of the Dead” and the Pagan celebration of Samhain, with imagery of ghosts and ghouls lining every lyric.

10. Promised Land:

The song is where we find a sort of “Peace” with the record. Soundscapes of relaxing oceans are exchanged for an euphoric, symphonic closer to the album; ending with Maggiebeth’s transcendental, high-pitched, operatic vocal at the very end of the final chorus.

Far away across the ocean…Take me to that Promised Land, the ship is going to sail…. Open up your mind when you see the hidden sign, new beginnings you’re sure to find…Further than a distant star …..all your dreams will start when you finally believe you could ever reach so far… ever so far!
