Behind The Tracks: Hasswut - Sauerstoff (Single) (2025)
Our latest single is called Sauerstoff, which also serves as the title track of our album. This song
is a bit more dynamic than what we usually create, incorporating more melodies and heavier
guitar elements. As a result, it has a slightly more metal-influenced sound than our
previous work. However, it still retains the signature sound of our band, where programming
and electronic sequences take center stage, shaping the atmosphere of the track.
With Sauerstoff, we wanted to address mental health struggles, particularly how our own mind
can often be our worst enemy. It can trap us within the confines of our own thoughts, making it
difficult to see beyond the four walls around us. This isolation can lead to a downward spiral of
depression, destructive thoughts, and overwhelming darkness.
The inspiration behind this song comes from personal experiences and from witnessing close
friends and loved ones battle these mental health challenges—something that became even
more pronounced in the aftermath of the pandemic. The emotional toll of isolation,
uncertainty, and fear pushed many into deeper struggles with anxiety and depression.
Through this track, we hope to contribute, even in a small way, to the ongoing efforts of mental
health professionals in helping people break free from the suffocating grip of their own minds.
Music has always been a powerful medium for connection and healing, and if Sauerstoff
resonates with even one person who feels trapped in that darkness, then we consider our
mission accomplished.
At its core, Sauerstoff—which translates to “oxygen” in German—symbolizes the breath of
fresh air, the lifeline that we all need when we feel like we're drowning in our own thoughts.
It’s a reminder that even in our lowest moments, there is hope, there is light, and there is a way
out.
