Interviews: Las Llagas

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Hardcore/Screamo band Las Llagas from Uruguay. Check out this interview and enjoy the band!

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it, or did it come out like that?

Naz: I love naming stuff, so I came up with a bunch of ideas, but none stuck till I brought LAS LLAGAS (the sores) in my head. It depicts Jesus' stigmata, but it can also be a common throat disease. Both work well with the idea of suffering

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Naz: We didn’t, I wanted to sing in a band like Viagra Boys, but this is the sound that came out of our instruments

Emi: I want to start another band with Naz, and we started with the idea of playing something like viagra boys. I played bass on some jams haha, but then the project was changing, and I sat on drums, that's my place.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Naz: Gonzalo, Hiram, and I have been friends for 20 years. Emi is 10 years younger, but we had a band before called Obelisco

Hiram: Naz, and I actually played together in a short-lived band around 2009 called Taenia

Emi: I met Naz in Obelisco, we played together for a year maybe, and then we started with this project, and came Hiram and Gonza, whom has been Naz's friends for a lot of years

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Naz: Mostomalta

Emi: Sleep

Hiram: Godspeed, you! black emperor

Gonza: ZAO

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Naz: The World we live in and the feelings I need to express

Hiram: I really enjoy coming up with things in the rehearsal space, jamming, and just playing to what other people are doing, and start communicating that way.

6. Where was your last gig?

Naz: Ducon, a place in a corner with a song dedicated to it by Jaime Roos (durazno y convencion, look it up if you want to know what Montevideo sounds like)

7. Where would you like to act?

Naz: Wherever we can play at

Emi: I think that every place has different energy, and this is what makes play a unique experience.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Naz: Martin Crudo from Canal Irreal and Los Crudos, and Tanke Veron from Invictum and Mostomalta

Emi: I believe that lagrimas and habak have been an inspiration for us, I think it would be good to know them.

9. Whom not?

Naz: No one!

Emi: No one.

Hiram: as long as they are not a fascist, I'd be cool with it

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Naz: I overcome my shyness by being present and remembering that all this is just a game I want to be in

Emi: I don't remember the song before it starts to play, but relax and enjoy it

Hiram: I suffered a panic attack one time while playing with another band, horrible experience, hope no one has to go through it. Mental health is important; if you can, get help.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Naz: Mostomalta, Habak, and Lagrimas sound wise, and the chariot, limp wrist, and Frodus performance-wise

Emi: Lagrimas, Habak, I think they are our biggest influences.

Hiram: for what we're doing now: fall of efrafa, saetia, botch, city of caterpillar, drive like jehu

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Naz: We have no fans, just peers

13. What do you think of your fans?

Naz: Idem, last one, they’re peers

14. What do you think of our site?

Naz: I love the dedication to it, you can really see it, and the part to discover bands by country blew my mind! I can believe there are so many bands from so many countries doing heavy music

Hiram: It's a great place to look for new bands!
