Interviews: Unmerciful - Devouring Darkness (2025)
In this new interview, we sat down with the American Death Metal band Unmerciful to ask questions about their album, "Devouring Darkness".
1. What can you say about this new CD?
“Devouring Darkness” is the most vicious Unmerciful album yet. It is also the most vicious-sounding. This is kind of a “return to form/ new era of violence” album.
2. What is the meaning of the CD name?
“Devouring Darkness” is actually about becoming more corrupt and evil by smiting the righteous.
3. Which one is the composer of the CD?
Clint and I (Jeremy) wrote the music and some of the lyrics. Trynt came up with a lot of the drum parts, and Josh has written some of the lyrics. It was a group effort.
4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?
Probably “Infernal Darkness,” just because it is so vicious and heavy. Although there are so many songs on this album that are absolute bangers.
5. Is there a special message in this CD? If there is what it is?
There is no special message. This is just pure unadulterated vengeance and violence in music form. This is music to destroy by!!
6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?
This probably sums up the subject matter of the album in a nutshell.
“All look up in terror, Flames consume the light, Hellfire’s wrath descending, Extinguishing all life.”
7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?
Our normal influences as a band are the usual suspects. SUFFOCATION, IMMOLATION, DEEDS OF FLESH, GORGASM, BELPHEGOR, etc.
8. Something to add?
There are 2 more songs that will be released before the album is released on May 23rd. We are looking to tour in support of this album as well. Look to catch us in a city near you in the future. GET THIS CD AND CATCH US ON TOUR!!
