Track By Tracks: Executionist - Sacrament Of The Sick (2025)
1. Ultionum:
Ultionum was the first track written for the record and is meant to show just how much we have
grown as musicians. If someone goes from listening to our debut EP straight into “Sacrament of
the Sick,” it will almost sound as if they are listening to a completely different band, which is our
intention. In Latin, “ultionum” translates to “vengeance,” which perfectly exemplifies the vibe
we wanted to create with this instrumental.
2. Edge of Annihilation:
This song is about the tried and true song topic, which is the end of the world. Our track
“Destined for Destruction” is about a similar scenario, but Edge of Annihilation is leaps and
bounds better than the former. As the first song on the record with vocals, we feel that it is a good
introduction to what the next eight tracks will hold.
3. Wheels of War:
Wheels of War will be released as a single on April 18, 2025, and for good reason. Wheels of
War is a seven-minute-long epic focused on the atrocities of war and how those in charge send
people overseas to fight their battles with little to no regard for their lives.
4. Serrated Shadows:
The lead single for “Sacrament of the Sick,” Serrated Shadows, is a testament to what
Executionist has grown into over the past few years. A melodic & thrashy number about The
Prowler!
5. Divided We Stand... United We Fall:
This track is a favorite among the members of the band. Not only does the song stand out
musically, but the lyrics focus on a topic that we all have strong opinions about. Politics has been
a topic in thrash metal since the beginning, and this is our contribution.
6. Thy Kingdom Come:
This song is a bit all over the place musically, but it works rather well. It has clear thrash and
death metal influences, but has an acoustic section as well. Lyrically, this track focuses on
hypocrisy in religion, which is something that we are all too familiar with, unfortunately.
7. Strange Aeons:
Strange Aeons started as a death metal track, but it quickly turned into something very unique.
The extended harmony section towards the end of the song is definitely the highlight of this
track. As the name implies, the lyrics are about Cthulhu and his rise from the ancient city of
R’lyeh.
8. Palace of Kings:
This may be one of the more straightforward thrashers on the record, but it still has elements that
make it stand out. Brett is a huge video game nerd and has an unhealthy obsession with Skyrim,
which led to this song being about the Civil War that takes place in Skyrim.
9. Sacrament of the Sick:
The title track is the longest on the album, which was intended from the beginning. We wanted
the title track to be a journey that showcased everything that Executionist has grown into over
the years. Given the plague doctor imagery we have always used, it made sense to do a track
about the bubonic plague. There is also a religious aspect in this track that accompanies the
Black Death material well.
10. Coup de Grâce:
The closer to this 50+ minute long album. It is the shortest track on the record, outside of the
opening instrumental. This is the thrashiest song on the album and another personal favorite
among the members. Coup de Grâce is about a warrior on the battlefield being put out of his
misery via a killing blow. It shares some lyrical similarities with Wheels of War but has different
perspectives on similar situations. The harmony section of this track is the highlight of this short
but sweet thrasher.
