Track By Tracks: Ryan Cosmonaught - Stars Are Coming (2025)
1. ‘Stars are Coming’ is a jangly and retrospective [exploration] of loss and reflection of love, loss and redemption. Think of The Lemonheads and their prime with a song like this.
2. ‘See the Stars’ - Think of early songs of J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. This is Indie, edgy and fuzzy with melodies for days. It's a story of youth, exploration and all it can have in store.
3. ‘Days are Coming’ - Clearly the most biting of all the songs on the record. I[t] would be if you mix 80’s post punk meets modern alt rock. Knowing the darkness is so near, there is nothing you can do but wait for it and just hope for the best. This is very influenced by bands like XTC and Pere Ubu.
4. ‘I Am Here’ - If you’re a fan of Teenage Fanclub you will get it. Trippy, spatial, and Avant Indie Rock. One of the better solo and guitar tones on the record for me. There are hooks for bands.
5. ‘Into the Killer Sky’ - I’m a sucker for Bob Mold and it’s clear by this song. Melodic punk rock with a pop edge. The chorus pulls folks in and makes you want to sing along. This [is] about that crush you had that was not for the world to know but [they] were the one that made me feel like a good person always.
6. ‘Keep Your Secrets’ - This is my softer side, and it’s all about pop sensibilities and the harmonies. If I were to ever write a single this would be that song. Heartbreak and Loss come to where passion and hope meet at the intersection of the human experience. The tone tells the story of this song.
7. ‘It’s You’ - This is the closest I have ever come to Britpop. I tried to add an edge to it, but it still has that love of bands like Blur, Oasis, and Happy Mondays. You will just understand.
8. ‘Just You’ - This is my noisy indie pop close to the recording. If you like things like The Jesus and Mary Chain and Built to Spill this is where I was going with those hypnotic repeating choruses and effects loop. It’s the way to close your eyes and let the day get away from you.
